View Full Version : Stopping spammers

I originally asked for advice on how to keep spammers out of my forum, as I am being overrun with them now. But because I mentioned the no-spam add-on in my post, my question was not answered at VBulletin's community and I was told to go here instead.

I'm really, really frustrated with having to block, ban and manage my way around porn and free pill ads... especially since VBulletin costs a pretty penny to host. If someone could help, I'd be forever thankful...

My question:

Everywhere I've read about the No-Spam plug-in, it's mentioned for 3.7 and under and I was wondering if anyone knew of a place I may not have checked for it yet, where it may work with the 3.8 version of VBulletin.

To stop spam, I have the e-mail verification on and I changed my human verification to Q&A, after reading some people found it better than the image one... it's only been changed for a few hours, so no bots yet.

Does any experienced veteran of these spam-bots have any extra advice?

Thanks!!!

I have used NoSpam only in combination with the default vB captcha for both of my forums and have had great success. I recommend NoSpam to all of my clients running 3.6 on up -- My experience is that spambots are made null&void when NoSpam is installed and used with the default vB captcha.

The vBulletin rip of NoSpam (aka Question & Answer Verification) is 2nd rate in my opinion and should not be used.
