I can't search for subjects that only have a few words in it or a common word such as Red.
If I search for "Upper Red lake" it comes back with "the word red is to common and thrown out".

This is also true in many other searches. Search for "US Reel" throws out US and brings back anything with only reel.

I looked at all the search options in the admin but don't see anything to help me fix that.

How do I fix that search so people can use it to search with common words and smaller subjects?

What search option are you using? The internal vB search or MySQL full text?

Not sure, how do I find out?
Install was done by vBulletin....I'm not very computer literate.

Admin CP > vBulletin Options > Search Type

There is should say something like:
Your forum is currently using xxxxxxx.

In that case you can not change these options. The MySQL configuration would need to be changed for this, and that might effect the entire server. Please contact your host.

Which is the best search option?
What happens if I change to the internal vb search?
Wonder why that option was selected during install?
It's aggravating for the users.

The full text search offers the most options.
