How do you like it so far?

http://i25.tinypic.com/29zot9i.png

What do i need to add?

Things left to do:

1. Design (suggest some based on the buttons and logo)
2. Cookies
3. Clicking timer
4. Adding text to the middle.

Do Not Use A Splash Page. So 1999 Imo. Waste Of Time. :)...Unless warning of adult content or something

Splash is awesome man, and no its not for adult content, its not a site reminder.

Like they go to the site, thats the first thing that comes up. Then there will be text.... a back ground... then they will have to wait 45 seconds to click to go on.

That once you click that accept, then the cookie will be there and expire 2 days after that, then when the time is up that will appear again when they go to the site. ect...

I would not visit a site that gave me a mandatory popup every two days, and have to wait 45 seconds just to click it.

My 2 cents.

Splash as 1999? I thought it was more like 1975 -- oh wait a sec - we're not talking about rainbows and waterslides are we...? Hmmm -nevermind then...

But yeah - my recommendation ==> no splash page. And to quote a sweet opinion I saw somewhere the other day:

Do Not Use A Splash Page. So 1999 Imo. Waste Of Time. :) ...Unless warning of adult content or something

I think that guy is on to something. Plus the concept now-a-days is "the least clicks it takes to get to the content is the sweetest." Splash is not awesome - it's so poolish or riverish or lake-ish or oceanish -- It's NOT awesome-ish :)

oh yeah - I forgot... I would dare say 95% of people who see that splash page are more than likely to click that huge "Don't Enter Site" button LOL - OR simply close the page. So if you are interested in making prospective site browsers potential Registered Members - the ideal would be to loose the splash page - You want to hit your users with content or something like sweetness - you don't want to tell 'em to click out of the site LOL

Splash pages are more of a nuisance than anything. Obviously, if someone will come to a site they'll click the enter. Why not remove the buttons "enter" and "not enter" and have the splash saying. "Look, Your going to view my splash page whether you like it or not" instead of giving them the option to click either button with the whole image clickable to enter your site.

Heck, If your even going to have a splash page, do what everyone else does and make it so graphic extensive they get bored of the wait and ask their wife to make a cup of tea and/or coffee, chances are she'll say make it yopurself resulting in her being pinned and/or stickied possibly closed. better still, create a visual masterpiece that will stick out and induce the viewer to go "woah" "wow" something that will make them think. Hey, nice page. I might even enter now.

Nice work. keep it up.

Ha! You could even.... Possibly could have some fancy flash work - so that the wife can be at least semi-amused whilst being stickied... And during the tryst - The viewer can see something completely intriguing and bookmark the page without even a glance at the content. Then - after the flash has emancipated itself all over the screen - the page can redirect automatically to the content without anyone having to had clicked a thing ROFLMAO

YEah i could ha, but im not gonna use that. Im gonna use HTML with javascript timers it looks cooler to me. =X

Set the timers up correctly, and what it does is, goes to the site, shows the information 30 seconds later the enter site button comes up.... probably design it with some cool art work and gradients.

Whatever works for you though. You will need to consider whats best for your visitors. It's always good to stamp your personal touch but not to much so that it affects the user.

What do you suggest then? and whats good for a gradient/background type thing?

I think we already suggested - everybody in the thread has offered the opinion that splashpage = no good. At anyrate - I was quite serious about a flash intro - it can be nice I suppose if the intro is attractive, riveting, well-designed and specific to your content. You would probably need to hire a flash artist though.

Actually - that's just an edited file from flashden I believe...
I just edited the text - I'm not a flash designer though - so you'd probably need someone who is more adept at flash design to achieve a similar concept ;)

http://flashden.net - It may also be a flash intro from http://templatemonster.com as well - I'm not sure which - but there are several online sources that specialize in flash intros - use Google newb :P -- Just teasing LOL - couldn't resist - anyway = enjoy and good luck - It's friday - I'm taking a Crown Royal break tehehehe - and no = generally any customized flash design will cost ya money - flashden is nice though - you can add $20 to your account and purchase for very decent prices.

Heh, your idea would work, if it wasn't an "Click to Enter Site" but if it was a registration prompt.. so, they can view your forum for like, a minute, before your timed javascript kicks in, and basically says "Oi, you've seen enough, like it? Good, well you can click here to register and become a part of this great community!".

For sanity's sake, I'd make it pop up after 45 - 60 seconds MINIMUM, and only appear on the index/adv_index. Give your users time to log in.

For this, here's what happened:

1] Had to click
2] Had to pause music (nono)
3] Had to wait for it to laod (it stuck on 8%)

I just clicked off :/ That's not what you'd want if that was the intro to your forum, right?

Flash is a no-no too.

Hmm well i need a type of home page, that reminds people stuff. And also to show them what to read/look for in the forums.

For what's it's worth, I bypass any website with a splash page, just don't have the patience for it. :)

Very weird - loads just fine on my end and it was only a quick example since the OP is insistent on a splash page which you will see in my posts - I advise against. Anyway - flash is generally the more popular way to go by way of splash page anyway - I would think... Especially if the design is done right.

You're not the only one. They used to be all the rave. Now they are a distraction.
