1.- Usage



Business directory, Links directory and much more.
Each user can has unlimited companies
Each company can has unlimited items (shops, links etc)
Google Maps
Rating and Reviews2.- Installation










The installation is pretty easy, has been checked many times for installing and uninstalling the product. Just follow these steps below:
Download and unzip the file microBUSINESS.zip
Open the folder vbulletin and select all files and subfolders inside it
Connect to your website and open the directory where is your vBulletin installation (usally forum, forums, portal etc).
Upload the selected files to your site. If you fellow the right way then the file business.php must be on the same level as the index.php file of vBulletin.
CMOD 777 folders:
microbusiness/files/
microbusiness/photos/
microbusiness/photos/thumbs/
microbusiness/photos/tmp
Before any new installation is good to backup your database before, even if nobody is doing it (including me). At lease turn your site off
Check at your AdminCP->vBulletin Options->Plugin/Hook System that Plugin system is enabled.
From your AdminCP->Plugin System->Manage Products choose Add/Import Product and import the product: product-microbusiness.xml3.- Configuration










As every vBulletin product, you need to make some initial configurations before it goes live.
MicroSUPPORT Options
Google Map API key. If you plan to use Google maps you must obtain a free api key.
Setup categories and feature list (if you plan to use it).
Setup usergroup permissions.4.- Template Modification


The module is using it's own templates, so it doesn't needs any template modification except if you want to add a link to the navbar. In this case you need to modify the NavBar template.


Open it and find:

Okay, I want to like this mod, but there are way too many issues in this initial release. For starters, it's not Firefox 3.5 (Mac) friendly at all. The Home/Directory/Companies/User CP tabs do not format correctly in Firefox. When viewing a company, the Overview/Map/Photos/Items links are smashed together.

Never thought that FF should not output correctly standard HTML formatting (width=xx)

You can't assign categories to companies. Just to items. The logic is simple. If a company has items (items is not equivalent to product, but to shops etc) in different categories, what category can be used for company??? That's why, when you select "Companies" in search form at the top, the category list becomes inactive.

You can't rate a company. Company's overall rating is auto calculating from ratings of it's items. I think that this is the right approach to rating.

Can't duplicate this bug. For me works fine.

I forgot to remove the links. I did it for left column which is on all pages, and I forgot the central blocks on the index page.

But in general, I don't believe that some incompatibilities with FF, or a missing file, are droping it's value to rate it as "Terrible":D

Yes, each item must be assign to a company. As for the error, please setup Features or deactivate them from microBUSINESS Options.

If you check any of my other mods, this is the first one that I placed line break before the table. But this time it appeard ugly in my eyes, that's why I added it. Of course this is a personal taste.

No, it's not. You must at least a company before and then assign items to a company. This way company gets statistics from all items belonging to it.

I am getting the same error:

I turned off the "Features List" in the admin section and don't get the error. The problem is that even though I have created a master features list, you don't require the user to select one or more features when they are creating an item. So if no feature is saved with the item, the error occurs.

where in the US the format is:

Not that it's too hard to update the "microbusiness_view_item" template directly. How do other modules handle postal address formatting? I would think it would be global based on the board/forum preferences, since it would be too complicated to map all the various countries.

Yes, it's also a way to use phrases. But I believe that most users are like me, always in rush to try something new. Having them in mind, I put them in options, as it's a simple step to change them, comparing with the time that they need to find them in phrases and change them. Just my approach. Both are correct.

Hey Thanks for the MOD,

However there are few issues with it?

1. I can not delete an Item whenever I do so it takes me to a blank page and nothing happens next.

2. When I add an Item I get this message
Warning: implode() [function.implode]: Invalid arguments passed in [path]/business.php on line 524

however the it passes this through the item gets done.

3. As it was mentioned earlier, I am a MAC user and uses FireFox, The layout it not compatible with FireFox.

I have checked in it both Safari and Explorer and the layout is great on those two browsers.

4. Even though I have changed the Max Number of Photos an item can have to 10 I can not add more than 5

5. When you create a category which has a sub-category and then decide to delete it. It gets deleted with no issues however the sub-category will not be deleted with it and the entire content of this sub-category is available and there is no other way to alter it or delete it.

Hey I am back again, sorry but there are some other issues as well

6. Bookmarking is not working properly. When you click book mark it takes you to a redirect page which states "Invalid data specified"

7. the Hide option in the CP does not funtion, it does exactly what the delete button do. Takes you to an empty page and no action happens there.

8. When there is more than one item in a category the page breaks and shows like this

It can be done, but it needs attention. You need to replace all:
microbusiness --------> microresources (or any other unique name)
business.php --------> resources.php

If your text editor supports the feature "Ask before replace", then activate it. It will takes you a bit more time but is safier.

You also need to change the filenames.

LIMIT 1 is also correct plus it has an advantage. Try to query a table with 5,000 records using query_first and then using my style. Then count the elapsed time. After this you'll understand why I'm using LIMIT 1 and not query_first.

They don't work on Firefox only. Firefox understands on different way than the other browsers (not only IE), the meaning of 100% in width when there are other cells with fixed width. Well, as a first step I've bought a commercial library for geolocating. It was unable to locate 50% of the addresses. Then I decided to manually enter latitude and longitude, but finally I found this library which locates even my office, in a small village (3000 citizens) in Greece. As far as I know, nobody reported that the mod was unable to locate an address.

LIMIT 1 is also correct plus it has an advantage. Try to query a table with 5,000 records using query_first and then using my style. Then count the elapsed time. After this you'll understand why I'm using LIMIT 1 and not query_first.

Sometimes I hate myself being out of schedule, but my life dosen't works the way that I want. Even with a week delay, I've released version microBUSINESS ver 1.0.1 which fixes the missing procedures: deleteprofile and deleteitem.

To upgrade just upload business.php and re-import product-microbusiness.xml (check overwrite).

Without to specify an ETA, hope that soon I'll release a new version with some more features like: Suggest Category.

Lots of ideas, lets see how I can find sometime to solve it:D
Most probably you're trying to add/edit an item when you're getting this error. Are you seeing an empty list in field "Features"? Have you deactivated features from admincp? ..or if you want to use features, have you added at least one?

Sorry for asking, but I've installed only the full version, so I can't check the free one right now.

- There's no option to choose a category when you add a new company. I've added two categories from the AdminCP, but there's no place to choose the category when adding a new company.

You can't assign categories to companies. Just to items. The logic is simple. If a company has items (items is not equivalent to product, but to shops etc) in different categories, what category can be used for company??? That's why, when you select "Companies" in search form at the top, the category list becomes inactive.


You can't rate a company. Company's overall rating is auto calculating from ratings of it's items. I think that this is the right approach to rating.

Great work on this mod! This is almost exactly what I am looking for, but I, too, would greatly love to be able to add a company to a category and be able to rate the company, rather than needing to use items.

For example, if you run a website dedicated to outdoor activities, perhaps you would list a company "ABC Fishing Equipment" under a category titled "Fishing", and a company "XYZ Hunting Equipment" under the category of "Hunting". For a fishing equipment retailer, listing 5000 different types of fishing rod styles as items is not feasible, so I would greatly prefer to just list the company under the category of Fishing.

Another example would be a nonprofit organization that does not offer items at all, but should simply be listed under the category "Nonprofit/Charitable". I'd rather just completely skip adding items, and just use the mod as a sponsor directory, with each business listed under a category.

microBUSINESS had been developed and will continue developing having in mind to become a TRADE module and not a business directory. Let's say an Alibaba clone (http://www.alibaba.com). So seperation of Companies & Shops (Items) is a must. Also rating (always talking for a Trade script) must goes to Shops (Items) and not to the company. Company's rating is auto calculating.

But as I don't like to let disappointed all like you, who want just a business directory, I'm planing to modify the current version by merging companies & items in one table and thus the rating should works the way that you want.

First of all forget anything about listing directory. microBUSINESS is NOT a listing directory.
microBUSINESS is a TRADING module, and thus companies can't be assigned to category, because a company can have shops/departments on different categories.Maria

Yes, this is the latest version 1.0.1 Maps work fine. There is no any post reporting problems with maps. It it working fine even with my address in a small city in Greece. Just check:
The Api key. Be aware that for each domain you need a seperate key.
Don't know in which country are you living, but if you're a non US citizen, give a try without entering a state.
Check at microBUSINESS options if "Use Maps" is ONMaria

I've already started this migration, but its not an easy job as I've to rewrite many parts of the code.

Meanwhile I also got the email from vB about new pricing structure and I've to decide if I'll continue supporting vB. Jelsoft for a long time now is selling thanks to the wide range of free mods and styles. I've started feeling idiot for spending my valuable time just to make someone else richer. In a difficult financial period for all type of business worldwide, I do believe that its a shame to ask a big amount of money for something that still dosen't exists other than some screenshoots. No demo and most important. No ETA !!

I just released the full commercial version of microBUSINESS. As this version supports forums/threads per post (plus many more), is totally incompatible with version 1.0.1, so you need to uninstall version 1.0.1 before installing this one.

Please note that I'll continue supporting and upgrading microBUSINESS but only for vB series 3.x. I don't plan to continue supporting vB community after the release of vB4. As I wrote in my previous post, I don't agree with the new vB pricing and I don't plan to upgrade my licenses.

If you read carefully the thread https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=225182, you will realise that many people decided to buy vBulletin, as it has a plethora of free modules and styles. Even in my case, I've 8 clients who bought vBulletin just to use it with my microTRAVEL module.

So, Jelsoft somehow makes money from our work. And believe me we don't have anything in exchange. Not even a single free license, which is a must for most coders to use it in a testing domain. For this reason I bought a second license. Just for coding.

By increasing so much the price, its difficult for most coders and desigers to follow up the cost for upgrades.

Is there any progress on trying to merge the items with the companies? We're trying to put your mod to use for a virtual world scenario, but with the current setup, it would require quite a bit of tweaking (which I am not sure you'd allow). It would end up in a product that resembles a business directory more than anything else, but that's exactly what we're looking for.

A merger of the item and company functionality would do the trick for us, and if you already did start working on it, I'd prefer waiting for that, rather than first having to dig into the code and then later on find my PHP programming is just not up to par.

Sorry, my earlier suggestion would destroy more than it would fix. Therefore I removed it.

Basically, I was trying to deal with the addedit_item template. The memberinfo box on the left positions itself to the top, while the table with information about the item due to cellpadding seems to sink a couple of pixels.

My initial approach removed the padding, but that ended up in the table looking like crap. I've tried various ways to try and solve it, but have not found an elegant solution yet that would NOT break the padding inside the table, and at the same time ensures the memberinfo table stays where it is positioned on the other pages as well.

I released the directory to my users yesterday, but it seems awfully clunky and slow for some reason. I did add the menubar to a few more pages and made a bunch of other alterations to customize things, but I cannot see how it could have made things this slow.

I've probably determined what causes the pain for me. I added the categories to the Profiles section as well, and rewrote the current JS GetHorizontalCategories method. (Just a copy from the existing one but pointing to the profiles table instead).

I'm starting to think maybe I also overdid things with sub sub sub categories etc, and the two combined are causing this.

Found a bug. If I set the permissions to have more than 1 profile to no, I cannot edit my own profile. I'll get the message that I'm only allowed to have 1 profile.

This is caused by the add/edit functionality being the same, and the check being performed at a too early stage.

To solve this, edit business.php, and find the following (under add/edit profile):

P.s. It'd be awesome if there'd be some kind of option to set the maxium amount of items/profiles per usergroup. I now am giving my registered users the ability to create 1 profile, and unlimited items. I'd have prefered to set it to 2 services with 3 items each or something along those lines :)

i have the microbusiness installed and im wondering 2 things..

1. cant I remove users ratings as admin?

2. cant i remove my own ratings as admin?

3. cant i sort the businesses accorting to rating ?
