I need help on getting a forum going , and not having any of those fake users sign up to spam , any tips ?

Setup all anti spam settings. Then advertise on search engines and just tell people you know and have them spread the word. But you have to put time and effort in to receive a outcome of many players.
For the "Community" development side - I suggest you visit TheAdminZone (http://www.theadminzone.com). They have some excellent tips and articles for developing your forum community.
For the VB install/configure side - you're on the right site - search, read, search, read (there are some excellent articles here - check out that section).

In addition to that site, there is www.adminaddict.net/forum - it's great as well. :)
