Preventing Fake Emails?

Im having a problem with this & hope someone can help me.

Im getting quite a few people registering that are obviously spammers or spam bots

They are putting a fake or non-existent email address & when my forum sends out the activation email, it returns as bounced & its causing a server problem

Can anyone advise me how to prevent this?

Use E-mail vertification.

They have to verify the creation of their account by email, so if its fake, they can't.

use a custom question on signup. stops it dead.
