View Full Version : Can you categorize threads into 'subforums' ?

I'd like to have my athletes forum categorized by letter (subforums named A, B, C, etc) and have all posts with athletes starting with A in the "A" forum, B in B, etc...

But I'd like the parent forum to contain ALL the posts.

So if they're in the main forum, they get ALL posts, if they go into a child forum they get just the posts that are part of that forum.

With 'stock' vB this isn't possible because it MOVES the post into the sub-forum, making it no longer available in the parent forum.

Is there a mod that does this?? I can't find anything.

Bump

I'm pretty sure this is possible as someone awhile ago said there was a mod for it, so I'm guessing just the right person hasn't read this thread yet :)

Yeah when making a new forum, just make it have a parent forum.

Doesn't work. The thread won't be listed in the parent forum. Once you move it from parent forum > child forum category, it's no longer listed in parent.

I want parent forum to show ALL the posts contained in the sub/child forums.

I got a reply on vbulletin.com and apparently it can't be done with stock vB - it needs a mod:

Yeah this'll require modification, analysing thread titles and categorizing them. Maybe you could use substr, grab the first letter of thread title and categorize according to that (as it'll be a letter most probably)..
Don't count on my reply though

I have seen a mod to do this before but I forget what the title of it was. You can probably find it by going into the different add-on forums and searching for forum display enhancements (that is the prefix I would put it under).

Yes all it would need is a hyperlink that is a simple search query - return all titles in that forum starting with "a" for the "a" link, starting with "b" for the "b" link etc...

I'll pay someone to code it for me once I have some spare loot.
