Welcome, mikey1991. You have 0 unread messages; Total 170.
You last visited: Yesterday at 23:55; You Have 5,437 Unread Posts.
Has this just been added? it seems odd and unfamiliar.. is there any way to get rid of it on a per user basis?

Yes, its been added, and no, there is no per user option to get rid of it.
Also, the "New Posts" link has been swapped to three options.
All - self explanatory really.
Community - New Posts in the Community and Announcement forums.
Modifications - New Posts in the Modification forums.
You can also just click on the "unread posts" link for all new posts.

Interesting.
I'll jsut "Mark Forums Read" and go from there I suppose ;)
Good idea, can be useful, but not very practical on forums of this size and not with like, 5000 posts every 15mins to check on. :P But hey, if you felt it was worth adding, who am I to question that.
I do like the new posts dropdown though, snazzy.

5,000 posts every 15 mins, lol - not on this site :)
We average about 600/700 a day.

Ah, well, must've been something up with my cookies then, It just said "5000 unread" and like, 10 minutes later, it had gone up by about 150, so maybe an exxaggeration on my part :)

Paul, just noticed something with this new addition. A very small typo.
If there are unread posts, it appears as, You Have 6 Unread Posts. (which it should)
BUT
If no unread posts, it appears as, No Unread Posts..EDIT: Basically there's TWO "." at the end of unread posts if you didn't catch that ;)

It probablly wasen't expected for someone to read all the unread posts :D
or to click "Mark Forums Read"

Part of me thinks that unread posts link is rather... annoying, because it says something like 'You Have 5,758 Unread Posts.', and I don't think anyone going to want to look through all those posts, in all practicality.

Ok, if I could make a suggestion seeing as how some are reacting to this, how about switching the dropdown menu up in the top right corner, but still saying unread posts(?), and just have the new posts link in the navbar?

I'll continue to use this site, sans javascript, the way it was intended.

I think this is pretty annoying and would like to see this reverted back to a simple link so it behaves as we are used.
As I know that this won't be done, I would like to request that at least the access key is being added to the new link in the upper right corner.

You dont know that at all.
In fact, it probably is going to change, the community/modifications new posts links may be moved to the search dropdown (at the side of the search button), thus allowing the New Posts link to revert back.

New Modifications is already on the search dropdown and has since the new style went live. Just need to move the New Community posts link there.

I think the adding of the community part to the search was something requested now for months, it's nice to see it's still being considered.

Two different things Wayne.
The "New Modifications" link is newly released modifications (in the last 30 days) as opposed to new posts in the modifications forums. :)

I guess I don't think of people just reading new posts in that section so never actually check the link under new posts. Thought it just listed new modifications because that is the title of the link.
