Like my notices? :D I have a lot of fun with these, making them different every week and trying to get my best threads noticed. Not much going on this week, but you get the idea. Lots of maintenance involved but they're different every Tuesday using other colors and fonts, etc.

Currently, 3 separate notices are being displayed, the countdown timer, the click to play our contest banner and the third with thread links and images. Took a lot of fiddling for a moron like me to figure out. There are others I have for various conditions like never posted, not visited in 30 days, etc.

Oh, before y'all rant on how painful to the eye my board it...whaddya mean? I worked hard to make it that ugly. :o

I guess a link would help, huh?

Oops, upon preview, I see it is in my sig.

I actually like the color set, and the monster emblems, slick! :)

Good job on it bud. Personally, I don't like them for one reason, (It's my own personal preferences speaking) It's bulky. BUT, it looks good from a user standpoint. :)

I know some people are strongly against dark backgrounds but thank you for saying you liked the colors. You are one of the few. I do have two plain light skins but the colorful notices don't seem to work as well or seem so dramatic on them.

I know the notices are a little big but it is a compromise. I want some of the features of the vBadvanced portal but in general, have my dislikes of the full blown portal implementation. Even though my notices are a manual maintenance process, it gives me a way to present an easy to find what's new/hot feature and rotate in a couple of new graphics every week to catch the eye. It has made me learn to edit html a little bit to do it, which isn't a bad thing.

I'm planning to reduce the height of my top banner to move things up a little. For unregistered guests that get the welcome message, the forum index is still closer than it would be entering the site through a portal. Without the welcome message showing, the height of the notices keeps the start of the index in view and it doesn't seem overly bulky. Some, but like I said, they are a compromise.

Thanks for your comments. I'm not your "bud", but my name is Elisabeth. :) Hi!

I apologize Elisabeth! :) It's different. I really enjoy different personally, I don't like the "norm" persay. I think you've got a good idea going. Like I said though, I think it's just a bit big. It may just be me, but that's my thing. I like a minimal presentation that works. Simplicity is beauty to me, but it may not be to others.

However, you do make a good point, without the welcome message, it'd probably be a lot better. I usually look at my pages through a window of about 800x600 to get the best idea on the minimal side of the resolution scale. This way I know, even the older computers out there can still effectively use the menus and forums easily. :)

great idea, but too cluttered.
