Thanks for updating this. Literally last week I was looking at the old release and planning to run it on my test forum to see if it would work with 3.8x.

I haven't yet installed this, but I did once use your product so I did have one suggestion that I had from the last time I used it:

Allow for an option to display favorite threads/posts/users on a separate page from the user CP (like /forum/favorites.php) I feel like if a user used this hack fully, it can get pretty cluttered in the User CP main page, especially if a forum has another hack that uses that space.

Thanks again for bringing this back. I hope to have some feedback in the future when I do add this to my forum.

It's not a feature at this time. Might be implemented in the future. :)

I'm just getting a blank page on submitting the favorite...I realise this is a modified template issue as it works in the default but I wouldn't know where to start looking for what's actually causing that...it doesn't seem to make sense as that part of the mod uses custom templates anyway. I can only assume it's something in header or headinclude as all the templates for this mod are in place ok and unmodified. Uninstalling sadly for now, I'll try again some other time and see if I can figure it out.

The hack has a few auto-modifications for existing templates. It is possible that one of those auto-modifications does not work on your custom skin. However, I have no way of telling unless I see it.

Since you are running vBulletin 3.8.x, the best solution for you is:

Find a plugin whose title is 'vBFavorites: Initialize', it is located under 'global_start'. You do that using the plugin manager. Find the following code:

$find_string = compile_template('<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="usercp.php$session[sessionurl_q]">$vbphrase[user_cp]</a></td>');

Replace it with the following code:

$find_string = '$template_hook[navbar_buttons_left]';

I think it should work for you unless your style does not have the template hook.

I did the previously mentioned fix and now it is working.

I guess my question I asked is pointless, I was thinking there was another page that displayed the info and you could make choices there that I could add a link to in my site navigation, sorry. Great Hack! It will be put to good use, thanks.

I was wondering though if it was possible to add in user permissions to this? I want only my paying members to be able to use this :)

Also a suggestion, on the Add Favorites Entry screen, is it really necessary to have the Entry Type:field? Seeing as the field is disabled (at least on the thread entry type), it will only confuse users, which lowers the usability of the product :)

I have also tried (v good idea of mod) but unfortunately automatic template edit did not work. I have manually inserted Favorite link in navbar as instructed but then it didn't work (clicking will not do a thing)
I then realize maybe I need a bookmark so after first bookmark clicking has shown pull down menu with favorites. :)

Suggestion: when no favorites saved at all (in the beginning) the pull down menu should appear but saying Find your favorite Threads, messages or users here (for example)

The link has 2 triangles next to it (and I suppose it should be only one)

Suggestions/bugs:

- put the manual edit for link insertion in navbar in instructions and on first page too. Apparently in 3.8.2 it is not working automatically
- Favorite link is appearing if you are not logged in (and it should not appear)
- If you have no favorites than navbar link does not show a thing. It can show for example: Add here a favorite thread, post, user ...

I have reinstalled and at least there are no database errors thus far.

I am seeing Add To Favorite Threads in Thread Tools and Add To Favorite Posts at the top right of each posted message, but there is no drop down menu in the navbar. I do have a very customized navbar, so that may be the issue. Can you give me the code for the navbar?

I think that is all I am missing.

The "add post to favorites" is all that's missing for me, due to modded postbit template.

The stuff that's in vbfavorites_postbit template.

I made some changes to the postbit, using images instead of text. The original text is now used in the image ALT tag and I have images that are slightly different depending on if it's an add or a remove of the favorite.

The original images were free on the web and I modified them to suit my own website, so change them as you require.

Edit Template: vbfavorites_postbit

Delete everything in it, replace it with:

Why you are saying it is for 3.8.x if it is not working on 3.8.3? Please correct it. It is NOT working on Vbulletin 3.8.3 with just installing the product. It needs templates edit and it gives randomly database errors.

You can't if you don't see it in usergroup permissions it's in conflict with another mod, I haven't tracked which mod yet.

Nevermind, I figured it out, for some reason "&amp;" was getting parsed into "=dir=dir=",, weird ehh? It was only happening in my showthread template and only on 2 occurences- one of which made "Add thread to favorites" completely disappear...

I'm a complete newbie with zero understanding of coding. I upload the php file to my server anduplaoded the xml file through the AdminCP product upload but I get no change at all. Nothing on any of the navbars even though the mod appears in vb options and appears to be switched on. The instructions for upload don't really explain what to do and I looked at the manual but it doesn't help much either. Can someone explain as if to a child how to get this working:o looks like a great addition to my board.

Installed on a 3.73 board and it does not work. The instruction manual in the zip tells you nothing as far as the installation goes. After install nothing shows up in nav bar. I then manually added the code in the nav bar templete. The Favorites link then appeared in the nav bar, but then the link was unclickable. I entered vbfavorites.php in address bar and was shown a page that I did not have permissions to view the page even though I'm the super admin.

This mod is well over a year old and I have noticed several others with similar issues as I have explained above, and still no resolution. In my opinion this mod is not MOTM material.

Psionic Vision, let me know if there's anything I can do to help get this mod on track.

Since I'm running vb 3.8.3, I'm kind of scared to install this, as much as I want to. I don't want to get DB errors :/ I did install it on a different test forum I have, but I've lagged with updating that forum, and it's nothing like my live forum, so the fact it works there doesn't really prove anything. Also, I had to add the link to the navbar manually cos it wasn't showing up, and now I've got TWO favorites links in my navbar - don't know how to fix it, I dont see duplicate codein the template. Would totally install this mod if it were working for more ppl.

BUG: In the template vbfavorites_editor the form tag isn't closed. This breaks favourites if there are any forms that follow it on the page that also have a 'do' parameter.

Suggestion: Add some code to template_groups to say $only = array_merge($only, array('vbfavorites' => 'vBFavorites'));

to trim down the entries in the template selection display.

I am on Snow Leopard. Using the archive app it was not able to be extracted. I tried Springy instead, (not a default app) and it worked.

not sure why, but thats how I got to extract.

I've tagged this in case it does get some of the mentioned updates such as user permissions and the ability to auto favorite certain threads for all users. Without those I really see very little benefit to adding it to my forum.

I have one suggestion: there should be an option to see other peoples favorites.

This could be on a user profile, so users find out great topics by browsing other user's favorite lists! (this should be optional, of course)

BUG: In the template vbfavorites_editor the form tag isn't closed. This breaks favourites if there are any forms that follow it on the page that also have a 'do' parameter.

Suggestion: Add some code to template_groups to say $only = array_merge($only, array('vbfavorites' => 'vBFavorites'));

to trim down the entries in the template selection display.

Navbar didn't update (I run a custom theme that uses images for the navbar so obviously but it's not in the template at all in any form) and when manually navigating to vbfavorites.php it says I don't have permission despite being a super admin.

Yep I have same problems here! I running vbadvanced and vb and nothing updated on my navbar. I can add members and threads to favorites.
There is no link to add posts to favorites and there is no navbar drop menu. If I try to navigate to your php file it says I dont have permission.

Is there a usergroup setting? I looked but don't see any!

Nature of the beast. When stuff is free it's entirely the author's choice whether s/he ever updates it.
If you really want an updated or modified version you could always make a paid request.

Discovered a possible bug -
If a post is added to favorites, the links in the User CP go to the whole thread instead of just the post. The link on the nav bar goes to just the post, as expected.

Lets get this modification version working first.

What I have observed.

In one vbulletin I have 3.8.4pl2 which is HEAVILY modified, it worked out of the box perfectly.

Then in another vbulletin same version, it will not work at all, and now...

In yet another vbulletin I have, version 3.81...only a few modifications on this vb, it will not work in the navbar which I don't care about anyway, and I would shut off.... BUT there are no permissions for users anywhere in the usergroup section... so even I cannot access the vbfavorites.php page HOWEVER it does show in each post, and I can add add a favorite, edit and remove the favorite from my userCP and it works fine there.

Very weird, and I now suspect (as I posted on page 6 that I would look into the conflict of another modification) might be a thread or posting type mod.

Oh well.

I am using v2.0.2 of this product. I don't know if the code has been changed, but the changelog does not mention it.

This product is flawed.
The list of ALL favorites (threads, posts, and users) is loaded on EVERY page load of the member (in the global_start hook).
It might not be a problem at first. But the list of likes will grow more and more. the way the favorites are queried will lead to serious performance problems.
