I was wanting to look at having an image with hotspot links on it as a site navigation system that drops down from a navbar button so I would like to hear any ideas that anyone may have on how to achieve this.
I was hoping to have on the navbar a button that says "Site Navigation". When a user mouses over the button an image drops down (opens up). The image has hot spots on it so that when a user clicks on one, the image closes up and they are taken to that part of the site.
I know it sounds strange but I think it will suit a site I am working on however I have no idea how I could do it or where I would go to find a script etc that would do the job so any help is greatly appreciated - thanks!

Are you after a menu system which uses images as opposed to words???

Sort of - say you have a site that uses forums, articles, videos etc. You could use a standard nav system that lists these areas for a user to click on and that selected section is then displayed - this is the norm.
However, a new site that I am developing would benefit if say a user moused over some text in the navbar and when doing so an image would roll open that had a graphical picture of the entire site.
Let's take for example a picture of a room that shows a picture on the wall, a newspaper on a desk, a tv in the corner etc. The user could click the picture on the wall (a hot spot) and the photo gallery section of the site would open, they could click the TV and the video section of the site would open, clicking the newspaper would open the Articles section etc. After the user clicks a hot spot in the image the selected section is displayed and the navigation picture closes.

Have you tried some basic Javascript Mouseover scripts, Theres loads out there, just add it to google and you'll see loads http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4PBEA_en-GBGB266GB267&q=Javascript+Mouseover+scripts
