Google Adsense

I just signed up for Google Adsense. Followed the directions. Had coded generated. Placed the code in my Header and it shows up as a box that says web page cannot be found. Have I done something wrong or is the code supplied not functional. Also does anyone know a reputable affiliate program to substitute PSA ads for in google?
