View Full Version : Modifications in New Posts search

I'd like to be able to search New Posts without having all of the modification threads included. I usually check out the Mods section separately from seeing new posts in the all of the regular forums.

Perhaps we could have an option in our UserCP to exclude all mod forums from being included in the getnew search?

Thank you for any considerations.

You mean like this link - Click here to view the latest topics (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/search.php?do=getdaily&forumid=92&childforums=1&saveprefs=false) ?

Sort of; more like one that includes the News/Announcements and the Community Central forums. And not a Today's Posts search but a New Posts search.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=x,y,z

put the forumids in place of those letters and save to your favorite location :)

SWEET! That's EXACTLY what I needed to appease my restless natives regarding my RSS feeds! :)

Ummmm.. How would I do that within the following? Would this be correct?

<td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="search.php?$session[sessionurl]do=getnew&exclude=x,y" accesskey="2">$vbphrase[new_posts_nav]</a></td>

Offhand it looks correct (assuming all you did was add the &exclude... part).

Got it working with a new phrase. :)

I'm well aware of how to do it. The reason this is in the Site Feedback forum is because I'm asking for it to be implemented here. Perhaps added as an option in the search drop-down menu.

I'm not sure if the "Click here to view latest topics" link for each section is new or not, but it does the job.

Although, I wish it didn't open in a new tab/window. ;)

Its not new, its been there well over a year. I prefer it to open a new window. :)

I think multiple people have asked for a 'search only topics' option in the search form, just hasn't been implemented yet. Good idea though.

When I do this, it returns a:

/forum/search.php?searchid=1314004

Is that what my users should bookmark?

Is that search ID unique to user and will always return the results from the search they formatted like this?

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=125,189

You can not link to a searchid. They only last a very short time.

Instead of using a modification, you could simply bookmark this link: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/search.php?do=process&do=getnew&exclude=125,189

(Note the "do=process" operator) :)

JFYI, the links for new modification posts and new community posts have moved to the Search dropdown menu, see attachment if your not sure where that is. This means the navbar "New Posts" is a single link again.

there has to be a way to disallow a forum from the newest posts search on the forum manager , i would have 100 new post links in my nav bar with custom search methods if i followed this route
