Most of the existing addons will need to be rewritten for vBulletin 4.0 anyway. At least anything with any sort of output via templates.

yeah, that was pretty much the plan for the last months, coming with a new structure... that's good, i like it... :)
we'll be seeing a lot different way to release addons here, and a lot of changes in the stuff available, now that most of the things can be created from the admincp... people will hire vBmasters instead of coders.

Then I shall wait until vB4 before beginning any large projects... The plugin system is still "new" to me, I used to code for vB 3.0 (prior to plugins) and I'm not going to learn a dying art-form.

I think I will wait like a couple of months after VB4 comes out as old mods need to be changed and stuff.
I'm in no hurry...but VB4 does look cool.

ditto i'll await end of life 3x before i swap to V4. I can see its an impressive system yet currently it doesn't seem to look like the platform i'll need as a basis for my features etc

Plugins are not a dying art-form. If anything they will be expanded and refined in the future. If you're going to learn then you should start now.

actually it's better to learn right now, but not for the future... vB4 is to be beta for a long period, and will have a load of changes... that's the point of Betas... you still have 6 to 9 months before having an official version for sure, and meanwhile you can learn to handle transformations on vBulletin, code USEFUL addons for it... your useful stuff will still be useful in 4.0

Hopefully the new widget system will be great, and most important, well implemented with a current forum.
Unlike, the current memberinfo blocks/tabs, blog blocks, and current notifying system (all widgets).

as it's a version 4.0 and not 3.x, it's good to understand that both engines will not be compatible at all... so if something is compatible you will be happy.. :)

I have to admit my comment was a bit unclear as I was in fact referring to the vb4 announcement (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/blog.php?b=2364).
By the implementation with a current forum I meant with a forum in general.
As widgets aren’t new to us, they are already used as listed in my previous comment, I can only hope the interaction between widget and forum in general will be better. Of which for now I have my doubts, as they currently will only be implemented in the new CMS?

We don't consider anything listed in your previous post in this thread to be a widget. They are static blocks of html code that can't be changed easily. Widgets are completely different.
