View Full Version : Search and Quicklink not working in navbar.

Hi, this is driving me nuts. The search button and the quicklink button in the navbar isn't working. I reverted the navbar template back to default and still no luck. I have 3 other skins on the forum and no problem, they all work. The problem is only on the default skin.

UPDATE** They will work if you right click "search" and choose open in new window...this may help narrow it down greatly. THANK YOU FOR THE HELP.

It's very hard to troubleshoot something when we can't actually see it work. I can't tell what is wrong by looking at the template (or rather, I don't have the patience to go through it looking for a problem).

Do this and tell us the results:
Go to a very page with not a lot of stuff on it. View it in your non-working style. View page source - copy to a text file. Now view it in a working style. View page source - copy to a text file. Compare.

I understand so I'm trying to give you the best visual possible. I can't do what you recommend because there is no page where the search button works. You can GET it to work by right clicking the search button and choosing "open in new page" which will bring you to the advanced search page.

Here is the part I think is relevant in the page source, but I may be wrong. If I am wrong just ask and I'll provied whatever you need. Thanks for the help.

start with a link to the forum where the problem is :)

that way we can possibly figure out what the problem is, also if you go into your admincp -> vbulletin options -> general settings ->
Add Template Name in HTML Comments

set to YES

when you view your source it will show exactly what template you need to edit :)

I understand so I'm trying to give you the best visual possible. I can't do what you recommend because there is no page where the search button works. You can GET it to work by right clicking the search button and choosing "open in new page" which will bring you to the advanced search page.

You said in your first post that the problem was only with the default style. So I'm saying change to another (working) style and look at the page source there and compare it to the page source on the default (non-working) style.

he said he reverted the template back to the default, i think a link to the site in question would be a good move at this point :)

If someone is going to look at your site to see what is going on, they will probably need a test username/password to login.

I could see the dropdown wasn't working (the <script> wasn't present as should be if you want it to work). But very often search isn't turned on for guests. The other styles had no dropdowns working for guests either. So, I suggested a test username/password so someone could logon to see what was going on if they wanted to help.

But, I also made a suggestion to compare the styles. If you don't want to do that, or the owners of the site don't want to do that, then I suppose giving up the default style is a good option also.

try adding another default style and see if the problem still occurs, to do this go to admincp -> styles and templates -> at the bottom click on add new style

parent style: no parent style
title: test
allow user selection: yes
display order: leave blank

hit save. Now try browsing the forum using this style, does the drop downs work??

is the forum busy right now?

i would suggest disabling your plugins to see if its one of them causing the problem

to do this add to the very top of your config.php file right under <?php

define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

then view the default skin and see if the drop downs work, remember after to remove the line in config.php!

delete the config.php.new

how heavily modified is the default skin??

without full acces to the admin panel i cant really see whats wrong, i would suggest editing the test skin to include all the features of the default skin and see if the drop downs remain working, if they do, i would delete the default skin and rename the test skin to default
