View Full Version : Great idea for a modification, but does it already exist?

The best way to show you the idea is to show you the site where I saw it. I'm not sure if the site is using Ajax or some of other programming language, but I think the application on VBulletin would be incredible.

If you want to see what I'm thinking, go to the link below and click on the very first story:

http://studio-5.financialcontent.com/demo/?Page=CHANNELINFO&ChannelID=5613

You'll see a window pop open - in a very clean, non-intrusive, way.

Any thoughts?

Does a vbulletin plugin like this already exist?

If you look at the page source, you'll see they are using iframes and that all the text you see in those "popups" is present in the page source.

I haven't seen a mod for this, but I've never looked either.

vBulletin Options -> vBulletin Options -> Forum Display Options (forumdisplay)

Set Length of Thread Preview Text to something larger than 150 characters. Then every time you hover over a title, you can get a similar effect. Or you can toss it into hidden divs (better than iframes in my opinion) that show on hover by editing the templates. No mod necessary.

Sorry.. Doesn't seem like you actually clicked (just hovered) on the first story here to see what happened:

I'm looking for a mod that does that. The part that happens after you click!

It would really help keep posters/readers from navigating off of your site.

You can do that with highslide, for example.
http://highslide.com/

I integrated it into a database frontend I did with vB-technology:
http://www.roma-antiqua.de/forum/hotels.php

It's German, but you can see it in action if you click on the small blue "i"-icon (for information) on the right or on any of the symbols in the second to fourth column of the table. You could show a whole post or thread in there alright, I guess - via Iframe, in this case, too. One would have to replace the links inside forumdisplay template and probably remove navbar from showthread template.

It might have a real good use for the showpost function. Wouldn't that be handy if the link to a single post would just let the post slide open like that?

I've made one, but it's not realy great

I think that in the thread are some links to other(better) modifications
I don't think that he's looking for thread preview (as he stated in his answer to Wayne). I think he wants to open the thread inside of an overlay.

Exactly. Thank you. I know this would make a great addition to VBulletin.
