OK, I've tried everything I can think of, but I still can't get this favicon to work on my site.

I've added the code everyplace I can think of. I have the icon file in the root and under images.

It works on FF just fine, but I can't get it to work on IE8. Other icons work on IE8, so I just can't figure this out.

I've searched other threads, and have tried some things there, but nothing works.

All you have to do is upload the favicon.ico file to the main index section on your server...Thats it.

i guess there's another favicon which overrides the one on your root, try searching the style image folder

I don't think you saved it in the right format. Are you useing Photoshop?

I used an image converter to make it a favicon.

I even tried renaming it as that was a solution mentioned.

Have you added this code in your headinclude template? If not, do it and Ctrl + F5.

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" />

I've used these in the header (just tried the one above)
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.forum4women.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">
<link rel="shortcut" href="http://www.forum4women.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.forum4women.com/favicon.ico">

also tried saving it as vbfav
I keep clearing out my cache

I don't have photoshop. It works in FF.

with no link rels? You mean start with <"shortcut icon"

Well, on my desktop, it shows it as an icon file, but then when i load it through cpanel, and hit properties, it shows as a jpeg file.

It should show up as an Icon file...that's probably why its not working.

OK, I'll try another converter.

Try replacing

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.forum4women.com/favicon.ico">

with

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico">

OKAY.. your problem is, as said earlier, with the format of your ico file.

http://www.forum4women.com/favicon.ico

Via FF, right click on properties of the above image, it shows as Type: JPEG Image whereas it should be Type: X-ICON Image

Convert it, not rename!

OMG....that was it. I used I think it was favicongenerator.com. They said it was an icon file and it had .ico and desktop even said it was an icon file. UGH. However, after you mentioned it might not be an ico file, I checked it's properties in the browser which said jpeg.

I should bill that generator site for our time :D

Thanks so much for your help.
