Question and suggestion.

Why charge end users $2.99 for this app as most companies give the app for free to increase user base and only charge the websites for providing the app?

Or split the difference, 99c for the app and $xyz from a developer.

I would GLADLY pay $100 for a branded app that I can give away for free on iTunes for my site and this would be equal to 33 end user revenue. I would even consider a yearly fee (like SEO apps).

Let me know if you are interested as most vbforum owners will have a hard time convincing their users to pay $2.99 for an app when our sites are 100% free already.

Hi all,

Today we have got version 1.3 of Tapatalk iPhone app released at Apple app store - a small milestone over the 1.2.1 version. This version has added:

- Personalization - you can customize which tabs to appear on the tab bar, e.g. if you move the "Latest" to leftmost, it will automatically load once your app starts!
- Full support of Pagination - now you can flip thru pages in a long thread just like on web browser, only much easier!
- Able to see who is currently online and send instant private message to them with just a tap
- Forum Statistic - a simple tab that lists all your forum statistic (where your forum security allows) include number of currently online users, total number of posts and members, etc.
- Added Italian, Swedish and Czech language support
- plus number of bug fixes

I have HS IMG Tag Resize 2.1.1 installed on my forum "The Model Hangar (http://themodelhangar.com)" and the images seem to be served fine in Tapatalk.

No you don't need to purchase the app to get the MOD install.

It appears you uploaded the files to the wrong place. You will need to put it under /mobiquo/ directory instead of putting all the files in the root of your forum.

For example you should be able to access:
RIGHT: http://www.chataboutcars.com/mobiquo/conf/config.txt

instead of
WRONG: http://www.chataboutcars.com/conf/config.txt

You can delete PM just like delete an email on iPhone with just slide of finger. We are working on the image upload. Stay tuned. :)

The app support only few set of basic BBCode now including url, quote, and img, we will add few more along the way. The admin feature unfortunately is lower priority as only a subset of user will find this feature useful. Eventually we will get it done though.

I just added anti-leeching code to my htaccess file today and now when I select my site from the forum list on Tapatalk it kicks me out of the app (everytime). Is there a specific domain or ip that needs to be excluded to accommodate for Tapatalk?

We have submitted the latest iPhone app version 1.4 to Apple few days ago with "Edit" function where you can open you post in edit mode and save the change on the fly.. I hope you guys will like it. In addition we have reworked the pagination and full screen images display logic to make it more stable and usable.

I will let you guys know as soon as it is approved.

Make sure you upgrade your plugin (MOD) to version 1.1 to take advantage the new feature.. Cheers.

Your forum is automatically added to user's favorites so next time he starts the app your forum will be shown on the favorites screen as entry screen.

Today we received a letter from Apple that our app is rejected because of use of "Private API" (read this if you interested to know more: http://groups.google.com/group/three...5046771539d139) - We are going to submit a new app later tonight and keep our finger crosses.

On a bright side it allows us to include a lot more fixes and tweaks to improve the iPhone app, namely:

- better pagination support - the pagination bar will be scrollable up-and-down with the thread view to allow more viewing space, and added "Previous Page" and "Next Page" button at the bottom.
- less crashes - we expect the update will be more (much more) stable than 1.3
- better full screen images support - able to view more images where 1.3 had problem to view
- Edit Post - you can edit the post that you had previously submitted
- "New Posts" - a special place where it shows the latest unread posts. Also topic will be highlighted with blue-dot to indicate unread topics

This is why I love Apple! They are protecting you and I from serious problems in our lives!!!!

If only we had Apple refrigerators, Apple cars, Apple homes, we'd all be happy people. We should never stray from Apple and we should make sure that all of our equipment only allows us to use other Apple equipment.

psychobike, nothing need to be done at the serverside if you had the MOD already installed. :)
however if you (or your members) have a nokia device (or if your members have it), you can follow the above instruction to get the nokia client installed.

you never know! the Nokia app is based on WRT technology which can be ported to Windows Mobile and Blackberry Storm in a reasonably short period of time. Of course it won't happen until we got the Nokia app UI sorted out - it is quite different experience from Android and iPhone.

As the owner, I would prefer to have one vendor providing solutions to different phone platforms instead of one vendor for BB, one for iPhone, etc.

That's one possibility, we will look into it when the basic forum feature developed and stabilized. This MOD is fully compatible with vbAdvanced as we paid special effort to it.

This has been a very useful and productive mod for my board. While I am still having issues with the ability to display an image to a registered user who browses my forum with the Tapatalk app ( I have opened a support ticket with Tapatalk) the users constantly say how much they love this app and how much fun they have on our board... can't wait to see what they say when they can actually see images as well. Please do NOT waste your time with vBulletin 4. It will be many months until it actually functions the way it should and is really "gold" - and most of us won't "upgrade" since it would be a major downgrade without the hacks. As it stands right now, I don't blame a single developer if they don't want to convert anythign to vb4, will charge money to do so, etc. vB 4 doesn't really give any of us anything better than vb 3.8 that I can see right now. Your product is getting better and better with vb3 and it will stay that way for quite a while. Better to do an invision board version first too...

i use vbadvanced and the mod works great. the files go in ur forum's root directory. how do u epect vbadvanced to come into play? im just curious, because im not sure what ur asking. make me feel like im not doing something i could be doing. haha

It may work well for you because your site is forum focus i.e all the content is generated from forum threads but many of us, forum is just part of our site, we have our content on other part like wiki, front page, etc
So instead of install separate apps, one for forum, one for browsing the site, I'm looking for something that our users can use for the whole site.

A long promising feature.... Mobile Upload!

We have managed to finish the image upload feature on iPhone, now (well, i mean as soon as we submit it to app store and apple approves it) you can simply attach a photo either from Library or straight from the camera! No more email via other third-party tool!

when "Add Image" button is tapped it will ask if you want to take the picture from camera or from library:

Hey Eric, are you able to send me the URL of which topic/threads in your forum that's causing the issue? Are you using the latest MOD version?

For the crash yes we are able to reproduced it two weeks ago and an updated version is again submitted to Apple for approval.

Looks like the Blackberry version is in full stream - we have finished the majority of the backend work and is now tweaking the UI to make it pretty and usable. Attached is a quick sneak of what it is like running in the ugly emulator.

You don't need that "update mechanism"....

I run many Nokia apps and none have an auto update "push" mechanism. This includes Opera Mini, Calcium (Calculator), PuTTY (for SSH logins), Nokia Email, Gmail, Bolt, etc.

If Google can live without auto Gmail push and if Opera can live without automatic Gmail push, then you can too.

I think the issue for you is not "push/update" but how to create an economic business model and you are planning to use Ovi to collect revenue. Nothing wrong with that, but I don't think you will find much success because ovi "sucks", for a lack of a more technical and polite term, and trying to replicate the Apple iTunes/iStore model with Ovi has not been successful for Nokia because ovi is so bad.

I get the feeling you are wrapping an underlying economic interest in the guise of a technical requirement. However, if you look at most Nokia Symbian Apps from the "big boys" most give away for free (Opera, Gmail, etc.)

How about PM me a copy and I'll install and comment back to you on the commercial viability of the app on Nokia? I use both an E61 and E63, but mostly E63 these days since it is smaller, newer, and nicer, yadda, yadda, yadda.

simply put we are not the big guys like Gmail and Opera who has a massive engineering team to get things right, if you look at our iPhone release cycle we have pushed out over 9 updates in less than six months, if you are here long enough our iPhone 1.0 release doesn't even have reply function! This MOD is based on constant feedback from users to get the way it is today. I feel that not everyone is power user - and that's why I am consulting user like you to provide feedback.

I don't see how it ties to commercial interest? We are well-informed in the mobile app space and it's silly to spend any effort in Nokia if making money is the reason - we spent hundreds (if not thousands) of hours in making this app running on Nokia, just because we know we can and we want to balance out the iPhone dominance.

Oh by the way I have a Nokia 5530 and I must say I love it. You can't beat the value of this little machine although the S60 UI drives you nut everyday :D

Yes, you can set it as hidden mode so only users knowing your forum name can find it, you can also make the your forum name a bit special so there are less chance people find it accidentially. :)

Problem is solved from the team. Here is the solution in case someone else experiences similar issues as provided from Yao:

It looks issue fixed. Some error happened when code encode from utf-8 to iso-8859-7.
Please verify it and let me know the result.


And please manully change one line after you any upgrade tapatalk plugin.

Thanks for the head up and we just tried it in vb4.0 and it doesn't work. We will have to figure it out ASAP as it is a very nice little thing that make the installation process a bit cleaner.

For the login-logout issue. Yes we plan to move the Logout button to be more visible.. and to answer your losing iPod concern... perhaps you can change your password immediately on the desktop? The same fashion that you will call your bank if you lost your wallet with credit cards? :D

A long promising feature.... Mobile Upload!

We have managed to finish the image upload feature on iPhone, now (well, i mean as soon as we submit it to app store and apple approves it) you can simply attach a photo either from Library or straight from the camera! No more email via other third-party tool!

when "Add Image" button is tapped it will ask if you want to take the picture from camera or from library:

Tap "Start Upload", you can continue to write your post while the image is being uploaded at the background

It takes only few seconds to upload, image will be re-sized to smaller resolution (if taken from camera) so to make the transfer faster

I have installed the beta BB version on my Storm 2 and the install wend ok but when I try to pull up the list of sites, well lets just say thats all the app does, cant click on any site, cant search for any sites.. I believe this is a common problem with this beta release at least with the storm 2 users running version 5 of the OS

We didn't have a chance to test on Storm for this beta (sorry didn't make it obvious) but we intent to fix this problem in next beta release... :D

Hey thanks for the feedback.. Your forum (and including your login details) are saved automatically in the "Favorites" in the entry screen so next time you don't need to search and login again, perhaps you missed it or we didn't make it obvious?

EXCELLENT! I clicked it before entering my forum and it was blank... and I never successfully [manually] entered anything into favorites, so I didn't bother checking back. But yes, my forum is now listing in favorites. Maybe have a pop-up when a user goes into a forum saying "This forum has been added to favorites" or something.. so newbies like me don't miss that part :o

GREAT! As I mentioned, an option/setting to set the width in pixels would be perfect. Something like, "Set longest side to: " Then I could just enter 1024 or 1280, 1920, etc...

Question : why do we need to add that script line to the bottom of our footer template? I just added my hockey forum and saw that in the instructions, but yesterday when I added my storms forum I didn't know about that part, and my storms forum is working just fine without that template edit.

Aaah ok. It's just that one of my sites receives 30,000+ visits a day and I'm really trying to keep any extra queries/code down to a minimum to relieve stress on the CPU. :)

My site receives a mere 7-10K and there is nominal stress by this application and doesn't register. IMHO it's one of the best, well thought out products I have seen and the support is second to very few.

Oh I agree it's a great mod/app. I'm just saying that if it isn't 100% necessary to run that script at the bottom of each page, I'll leave it out.

The only thing I'd like to see with Tapatalk right now is the bug fix for msgs (clicking the button for unread msgs doesn't do anything), and the ability to set your resize for image resizing - right now it turns big 5MPixel images down to tiny things with really low quality. It would be great if the user could configure that him/herself.

Great app but I am wondering why the OP does not address questions as to why the app is not free.

I understand that software development requires a lot of time and money but but why should provide an app to my members that takes income from me, Google Adsense ads, Supporting Vendor ads, etc..., which are not viewable via this app and only give incomes to the app developer?

You can upload attachments, but as far as I know, only images - and they're resized to a useless resolution (small pixel size, and massively compressed so they're small AND blurry).

Auto-quoting the msg you're replying to would be nice. I dont' want copy and paste though. The simpler the quicker. You can do all that stuff just by opening a regular browser and going to your forum that way.

Oops.. we have just updated the package so it tells you that you have installed the older one. You can simply drop in the latest package and all will be good. :o

Yes I'm on that forum - but I'd rather know of a single URL I can check for when updates are released instead of searching through a whole forum :) (I run multiple sites, multiple servers, multiple forums, and already try and do 2hrs of online work for every 1hr of real time, so I'm a bit too busy to be 'involved' in another entire forum) :)

Any idea on a time frame when the 'unread' posts button will be working? Right now switching between "All Posts and "Unread" posts, does nothing. 'Not sure if it's a problem with the Tapatalk app on the phone, or the vB mod part of it. (although being able to set the resize size on my Android is more important to me)

Seems like a heavy load in many ways from what I have read. I'll tag until a "FREE" app is available for users. It's hard enough getting members without "others" making money. I'll stick with https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=226946&highlight=mobile for now. Free and easy is what people want now days. Your app just seems to make it easier for people to navigate away from our boards while "People" make money off it when given the chance. Sorry.
