vbGuild (full) - Guild/Clan Roster Plugin (multi-game, multi-char)

I'm no longer supporting it so I've published the most recent FULL version for free. I hope you all enjoy it.

Until now, there's been no vBulletin plugin that supports a guild whose history spans more than one game, one server, or with members having multiple characters in the same game. vbGuild is made with those guilds in mind. Define games, servers for those games, and traits for each game. A trait can be a text input value like surname or crafter type, a dropdown for values like race, class, or level, a radio button, or a check box. Set up each game's character history exactly as you want it. Determine which usergroups can record their characters on your board and which show up in your roster and then view that roster at any level, i.e. all games, one game, or one server.

The free version only supports one game and server nor will it see any future enhancements. You can find out about some of the planned enhancements, what the full version can do, and how to get it at Unmoderated Info. (http://unmoderated.info/cm/showentry.php?e=40)

This is our first mod and we're hoping to make it a major one over time. Please support the effort. Thanks and we look forward to hearing feedback.

It works with 3.7.x and higher. Please click installed.

PUBLISH FILES:

Download the latest version attached.
Extract the files to your desktop.
Transfer the contents of the "upload" folder to your web server's forum root folder via FTP.


IMPORT PRODUCT:

Open your board's admin control panel: http://mysite/vbulletin/admincp
Expand Plugins & Products >> Manage Products
Click [Add/Import Product] at the bottom.
Browse to product_vbGuild.xml in the "do not upload" folder you extracted.
Allow Overwrite = Yes.
Click Import.


USERGROUP PERMISSIONS:

Open your board's admin control panel: http://mysite/vbulletin/admincp
Expand Usergroups >> Usergroup Manager
Choose a group to allow to manage characters and show in the list
Scroll to the bottom of the permissions list
Select the desired permissions in the vbGuild block
Click Update.
Repeat for each usergroup you want to permit some vbGuild usage. The default is deny all but viewing.


DEFINE GAMES:

Open your board's admin control panel: http://mysite/vbulletin/admincp
Expand vbGuild >> Edit Game List
Add game.
Repeat for each game you want to add.


DEFINE SERVERS:

Open your board's admin control panel: http://mysite/vbulletin/admincp
Expand vbGuild >> Edit Server List
Choose game in the dropdown.
Add servers to that game.
Repeat for each game you want to add to.


DEFINE TRAITS:

Open your board's admin control panel: http://mysite/vbulletin/admincp
Expand vbGuild >> Edit Character Traits
Choose game in the dropdown.
Enter a trait name, choose the type, click add trait.
Most things should be obvious. The two things worth mentioning are drag-and-drop sorting and, for select boxes, if you put a number range in the option name field it will create that entire range. For instance, if you want to create levels 1 through 70, type 1-70 and click Add Option.
Repeat for each game you want to add to.

If only some are getting the error then the problem is occurring only under certain circumstances and that's what I need to get to the bottom of. One random thought I had was maybe you guys are using a sub-domain for forums instead of a nested folder path. Is that the case?

Warden, did you upload it to this forum? http://www.global-gamers.net/ If yes, then http://www.global-gamers.net/forums/vbguild.php should hit the roster view but it's not. There's no error or anything. Why?

Aligator, in your case going to http://forum.online-games.gr/vbguild.php does give an unspecified 500 error so I'm guessing it is where it's supposed to be. In the attached zip, there was a file located at "/upload/admincp/vbguild.php". On line 45, just before the "require_once" line, add the following line, save, and upload it to your site:

print $VBPath . "<br>" . $vbGuildPath . "/lib/VbGuild.php";

Now go to the admin CP, click on game list, and paste back the 2 lines containing paths that should be at the top of the screen. I need to know where it's trying to find that file. It should look something like this:
/home/thecombi/public_html/vbulletin
/home/thecombi/public_html/vbulletin/vbGuild/lib/VbGuild.php
In the example above, the files contained in upload were transferred to the vbulletin directory.

It does work unless you've renamed your admincp folder. I'll solve that problem but probably not until next week.

Yes, it's all one database. With the full version you can add multiple games, multiple servers for each games, unique sets of traits per game (i.e. some games have races, some have classes, etc.), and multiple characters per user including alts. Installed ok, but having some issues with the display.

Ok, found the issue there.

Didn't have any character data added yet so it didn't show the game listed on the left.

Only issue I have now is that I did the template edits as required, but I am not getting the "Character History" link to appear in the userCP. I checked and my usergroup (admin) does have this set to "yes".

I manually went to the link and it let me in though (something you might want to check in the future).

Ok, more updates.

I have the character history working in the UserCP now.

Found another bug though. My first field is "Character Name", it's a required field.

In the editor, things look fine. However when I edit/add a new character, there are two fields called "Character Name" shown. They appear to be different. I'm guessing that this is a field that you automatically add in? So my adding another made it a duplicate field. Not a big deal, but it'd be nice if this wasn't added automatically.

Also, config values for changing the look at feel would be good. the color scheme looks really bad on my dark background. I haven't looked into what it'd take to tweak it yet though.

Trek, yes, character name is the one thing you never have to add as a trait because it's common across any game you'll play. I had to make that assumption.

Styling is a big deal and vbGuild is very poor in that regard. The idea was function first, form second.

vibedream, just to confirm, is your admincp folder renamed to something else? I'm out of town tomorrow through next week but once I get back priority #1 will be to fix that bug. After that I'm going to start adding some cool functionality to the full version. You should be able to see the project list here. product install failed with saying smtg like "no fulltext support". but after adding ENGINE=MYISAM after every query in product.xml it installed without displaying an error.

but now i am having the same "include(" errors as others. somehow it fails to get $vbGuildPath .

I'm sorry you're getting install errors but I think you're the first person to get those and I'm sure I'll be seeing new errors in the future as well. That fulltext support sounds quite strange and I'll look into it. The only path problem I've seen so far was related to the admincp folder renaming and I will get to the bottom of that when I get back. That one sounds easy but for some reason isn't.

I don't know how much of the planned improvements will be pushed to the lite version but I can get rid of that dropdown.

I'm not currently using it as while it's pretty nice, there's a ways to go before it has everything I need. But assuming this mod is actively updated, I'll probably purchase the full version eventually.

Hmm, that certainly hasn't done anything for me. I've been using that address for nearly a week now. Permissions are set correctly too--I have nearly 10 others testing with me. Still no menu. Guess I'll dig deeper into the code myself.

FYI, I have paid the $5 for the full version. Hopefully it helps further the development. As it stands, it isn't quite ready for primetime, mainly due to the template breaking table, but I'm really hoping to see this get better. It could fill a huge void for gamers in the vB market!

I wasn't going to include this in the free version but I decided to anyway as a thanks for trying the product. The version I just published adds a tab to the user profile. It's a simple list and I plan to add more stuff including how the lists look and work soon but that'll be in the full version. For those upgrading, you only need to import the xml to get the profile tab.

For those of you already on the full version, I haven't posted 1.1.0 to Unmoderated Info (http://http://unmoderated.info/cm/showentry.php?e=40&catid=3) yet because I want to include a bit more but it'll be uploaded this weekend. Thanks for your patience

The free version is limited to one game. Also, the next release of the full version, which I expect to do this week, will include some extra functionality like default roster view, deactivating games, and better styling.

As an update, I just got access to a Windows-hosted instance of vBulletin and will work against that this weekend.

It looks like I had it fixed in one version of the file but not the one I uploaded. Really sorry about that and any inconvenience. I'm a distracted one-man operation here. I know vBulletin supports mySQL 5 and that won't break. I would imagine mySQL devs have made it fairly painless to upgrade but I don't know what else you have on your web site that depends on mySQL so I can't speak to that. I certainly wouldn't want to be responsible for you breaking your entire site because you upgraded so all I can say is that vBulletin works with it.

I'm not sure what you mean. You have to manually enter everything you want available for selection. There's a plan to allow imports but it won't be ready for a bit.

It's all manual for now. We do have planned the ability to import data from various sources but there are higher priorities ahead of it still. Most users of this addon would only have a few games and servers to enter. Only a minority would want to enter every server for one or more games but I do sympathize since that's exactly what I did for Combine. WoW's server list alone is ridiculous.

And Yes, the files are in the right place. I thought that was the problem at first... which is why this issue is kind of mind boggling for me. :confused:

I fixed it! The /lib/ directory is, by default, located within the vbGuild folder. It was looking for the /lib/ directory within the forum root (/forum/lib) instead of /forum/vbGuild/lib

The errors are gone, but it still isn't working. I click on 'Character History' within the UserCP, enter my info, and click save - Nothing happens. It does this in firefox and IE. In IE, it says 'error on page' in the very bottom left hand corner.

Hmm, why would it be looking in /forum/lib? It doesn't do that for anyone else. How did you fix it? Although I'm going on vacation in two days I'd like to try to get it running for you before then. Would you trust me with temporary admin access to both your board and ftp? It's a lot to ask but I don't have any way to replicate it.

That's not what it was meant for. The plugin is meant to be character history at the individual board user level for any kind of game. In your case, the clan is the board user you want to track. What you'd have to do is create a user account for each clan, define the game as Counterstrike, the server as the tournament, and then define the tournament traits. But even then it wouldn't be determining who fights next or anything like that.

Yeah styling is also improved in this coming version although I'm still waiting for Twisted to show me the working draft.

I was just telling afflictionaoc that was one of the reasons the full version was priced at $5. People wouldn't expect it to be updated every week or have much to complain about. At $5 you already get your money's worth when you buy and the rest is icing.

My above post is vague; I should clarify. While fixing afflictionaoc's issue some more changes were made. Aside from the pathing issue, he had errors with vbAdvanced templates being used everywhere. The roster page (vbguild.php) now uses the generic_shell template because without it, anyone using vbAdvanced with that page is going to have errors. But if you don't have errors, you don't need to upgrade.

As always, I'll support the free version to a limited extent but I'm obviously hoping people will see the value in upgrading to pro; especially once the new version hits. Thanks to afflictionaoc for trusting me enough to let me troubleshoot live.

I finally got a chance to look at what Twisted did and it's not good yet. Our original understanding was that he'd deliver a codebase rewrite that handled errors and pathing better, had all the same functionality, better handling of styles, and added enhancements and bug fixes in the project list. Instead he sent me the current pro version we now have with broken table formatting in both FF and Chrome, and a bunch of incomplete enhancements. It's going back to the drawing board. First he has to do a proper rewrite and have it working as expected, then we'll start adding in enhancements.

Meanwhile, this week I'll update the existing version to fix the Chrome display problem, fix a user profile bug, and change so installation auto-inserts those template changes instead of having to do it manually.

I've updated the free version. I fixed the user profile tab bug where it would only show you your own characters no matter whose profile you were looking at, and I also added auto-insertion to replace the template edits for the navbar and user control panel. Once you install this you will have to go and undo the original template edits. Either that or turn off the two insertion plugins.

I wanted to fix the Chrome display problem but it's a browser failure. Chrome, for some reason, doesn't interpret a common thing like all the other browsers so I say screw Chrome for now. We'll put in a workaround later but I'm not spending more time on it at the moment.

A user pointed out that characters couldn't be added or deleted from the user cp. The cause was an updated jquery library that somehow broke everything. I've updated the 1.1.2 package with the old library and it seems to be working ok now. If you applied 1.1.2, just download again and transfer the web files to your server. You don't need to reimport the product again.

Let me know if you encounter any other problems. I haven't had a chance to test it thoroughly because my PC died and I'm working on an unprepared machine. I'm really sorry for the inconvenience.

I just fixed a really small bug where the forum footer was displaying above the roster list. It was an edit in vbguild\view\main_list.php and so tiny I decided to just leave the version the same. You can upload that one file to fix the problem.

#1 can't be done now via the interface but I can added that as something to be moved to a phrase. #3 is slightly more complicated in that it's at the core premise for the addon. Both are, really. Game and server.

Editing seems to work fine. I went to the game list, hit edit, and it appeared in the textbox above with an update game button. Change the text, hit the button, and it saves with the new value. Please test to make sure that's the case for you and then you can remove the temp admin account, and thanks for trusting me with that.

I think there's a miscommunication. Drifter reported that he couldn't edit anything. Are you saying you added games you no longer can see?

I see the problem. Did you add those games directly into the database? You're using the free version of vbGuild which only supports one game which is why that's all you see. The hope is that you like it enough to pay $5 for a full license.

The word "guild" is only used once in the name of the plugin that appears in the navbar, vbGuild, which is a phrase that can be changed. This was done on purpose since some are guilds, some are clans, and none of it matters to the addon. What are the other small edits?

The vbGuild addon was designed around the game/server concept but you're the second person who wants to change "server". I don't think it'd be hard to change that into a phrase although, whatever you change it into, it will be required and entered only by an admin through the admin cp.

I just spent what little free time I had this weekend adding a cool feature that isn't necessary in a demo and most wouldn't even use. Considering the responsiveness and support I offer to everyone, I hope no one will get upset with this.

I took a quick stab at converting it, got past the errors, but still can't get it to display anything.

So I decided to convert my GuildMate mod first since it's much less intensitive. That's going ok, but I'm having trouble getting the popup menus to work. But I'll get that going eventually. heh.

Ok, so I finally got my GuildMate add-on working correctly. Took me long enough but... as long as I retain what I learned, it was useful time spent. I need to style it up a bit more and some people might complain about me using tables instead of DIVs, but... it does what I want it to. Converting to DIVs is an exercise for another day.

As for an environment for you to use, I'll see. Right now my dev environment is using a backup copy of my DB, so all my member information is available.

Ohh, I did spend a little more time converting your mod though (Mostly, I'm trying to learn how to make these things work in vB4, I'll leave the real conversion to you), I have it displaying the data now in the userCP. It's not pretty, but it's there. heh

Uninstallation does not remove the physical files. You'll need to manually delete the files that you uploaded as well. The best way is to open the archive again and see what the files are, then FTP into your website and delete the same files.
