View Full Version : too many spam
These days I am getting too many spam.
I think they register automatically "bypassing" the captcha because they have usernames like:
...Cosy
...Cosy
...Cosy
and
...34
...35
...36
etc etc
Any tip how to stop this please ?

Hello,
Spammers get past captcha easy enough but have you tried recaptcha?
Also, the human verification question and adding some custom required profile fields can help a lot too.

yep it had recaptcha enabled and bots were joining
I give a try to custom field

Are you getting an abnormal number per day or hour?
Are they coming from the same or small number of IP addresses that you can ban?
What information are they putting in the required custom fields?
Is it possible they are hitting an alternate registration mod/program that not the standard register.php page?
For now I'd change new members to go into moderation and only approve the ones that appear to have legitimate information in the required fields.

I banned .cn emails damn
They have different IP addresses.
They have different domains but always .cn
*Is it possible they are hitting an alternate registration mod/program that not the standard register.php page?* no
*What information are they putting in the required custom fields?* test
and the other is a single selection menu.

Now they keep on registering with e-mail.com emails.
I banned it too.
It's impressive how they have the way to register so fast.
