When user logs in ads go away?

Hello to all.

I have seen a few places where it reads that if you register that these ads will go away. Is this a hack or is this something to where you only show ads as a guest under the usergroups?

Or is it 2 versions of vb running one with ads and one without?

Its either a modification or a conditional to not show to x usergroups.
