Email confirmation link not working

After a user signs up, the link they receive is not working and they remain in the Users Awaiting Email Confirmation group and are unable to login.

It seems this started after my upgrade to 3.8.1. And I installed vbseo at the same time.

The problem is driving me crazy because I have to manually move users, so I'm hoping someone has a solution.

I did try to search this forum for a solution but couldn't find one. But if I missed it, please feel free to flame away :D

I have seen this before with vBSEO installations. Does this also happen with vBSEO disabled (and their .htaccess temporary renamed).
