Hi all, I originally asked this over at VB.com and was told this was a better place to ask this question about our issue with missing attachments...

How this happened, we moved the forums to a new sever, in doing so lost 22,000+ attachments , dont ask me how, but we did, (we been running VB 6+ years so accumulated a fair few attachments)

is there a way we can delete referances to missing attachments from posts??

EG a utility/system that reads the post , checks the attachment is there, if it isnt removes referance to the missing attachment.

it takes upwards of 7 hours reindexing with missing attachments and its driving me nuts..

There may already be a way of fixing this, if so I havent found it as yet.

Thanks for any input.

If it was only a few posts we would fix this by hand, but fixing 22,000 attachments by hand is not something even worth contemplating...

If all your attachments from a particular date and before that there is a prune attachment feature.

Did you not transfer the folder with attachments in them if they were stored in the filesystem?

We did indeed, however suffered a internet spike, and lost a lot of data in that particular file xfer..

It will take weeks to prune this, unfortuneately not all the missing attachments were nice enough to just be from one date to another, but randomly missing from the message base..

When doing a re-index or resize of thumbnails, maybe a added option of:-

Delete missing attachment referance yes/no ? would be a nice check box to include.
