How to edit thread listings page when opening a forum...

Hey all,
I am trying to edit this page here:
http://bunkerama.com/vbull/forumdisplay.php?f=5

Basically what I would like to do is add a column to the left of the thread titles and to the right of the new post indicator like I have exampled in the first attachment.

In the red area, I would like to have a "roughly" 250x120 snapshot of an image you can find in the thread. Is this possible? Which template/file do I need to edit?

Also,
I would like to be able to choose which image is used for this preview image. Does anyone know a good way I could go about doing this?

If you want to modify the template yourself, it is called: threadbit

p.s. There's a modification called thread thumbnails which pulls image from attachments
