View Full Version : Chat Modifications - Flashchat 4 Integration for vBulletin 3.8
Paul M

This modification is no longer available or supported.
Note: I no longer use Flashchat, and development and support of it at Tufat appears to have died in 2010.
vBulletin 3.8 Version
Please remember to click Mark as Installed if you use this modification.
Flashchat 4 integration with vBulletin 3.8.
Note: This is compatible with Flashchat 4.7.x only, it will not work with Flashchat 5 or 6.
Note:
Standard Flashchat includes vBulletin integration as part of the Tufat supplied files. However, the standard integration does not include Direct Usergroup Integration or other extra's like the WOL Display & Flashchat on a vBulletin page. This Modification adds those features
Extra's added by this modification
* Direct login to a room.
* The WOL will correctly display Flashchat as the location (not 'Unknown Location')
* Flashchat can be displayed embedded inside a 'standard' vBulletin Page (i.e. not full screen).
* Direct Usergroup Integration - a section is added to each usergroup in the ACP Usergroup Manager to set the Flashchat permissions for that group.
* The plugin will try to automatically add a link to Flashchat in your Navbar Quick Links or Community Links - this feature can be disabled if you wish.
* The automatic link can have a prefix path defined - useful if you use something like CMPS.
* You can define a usergroup to login as Flashchats "Spy" mode.
More notes:
* This integration is for Flashchat version 4 only.
* The automatic link feature may fail if you have customised templates (it uses template hooks).
* For Flashchat inside a vBulletin page you need to link to .../misc.php?do=flashchat
* This modification does not add any links to Flashchat Administration in the ACP.
* You can set all members to login direct to particular room via the ACP.
* You can also add a room parameter to the url - i.e. .../misc.php?do=flashchat&room=3
* Spys can login into the chat but are not listed in the room - they cannot chat, just watch.
The CMS file assumes that you are installing Flashchat in your forum root folder i.e. (/forums/chat/) - this is the same folder as your usercp.php file and includes folder. Installation will fail if you do not do this.
Support: This modification is no longer supported. Please check the instructions, and make sure you have uploaded any files to the correct location - the vast majority of problems reported are due to an error made in editing or uploading files.
Finally, I am not Tufat.com (http://www.tufat.com) or Flashchat Support - if you have questions about Flashchat, their forums are here (http://www.tufat.com/forum/index.php).
To use the this integration simply download and unzip the file, then follow the instructions in the text file. Once installed, the Flashchat userlevel options for each usergroup will appear in the ACP usergroup edit screens - editing of the CMS file will no longer be required.

Is there any way to fix the good old security token missing error when one clicks on a profile? I'm assuming it's the new vbulletin38CMS that fixes that. I've installed the new integration along with 4.12. 4.12 worked previous to the installation of the integration, but afterward when I try to enter the chat I just get a blank page.

Ok, I worked on this some more...... I did a re-install of flashchat using their install program and check the 3.6 integration (as it was the latest that was on the menu). Install of 4.12 goes fine, and I am able to login with my forum username and password. Then I go through all the steps of this integration. It seems that when I change the CMSsystem to point to the new vbulletin38CMS.php as the integration file when I subsequently try to logon to flashchat it no longer recognizes my username and password. Can you help Paul?

Did you do step 3 in the instructions (i.e. change the CMS name in Flashchats config file).

Did you do step 3 in the instructions (i.e. change the CMS name in Flashchats config file).
Yes, it's when I do that..... 3 end up with no more connectivity with the vb database, i.e. it no longer recognizes my username and password.

4.7.x works fine but due to some reasons i do need this 4.5.2 version.

In FlashChat 4.7.12 you have to manually edit the config files to alter the settings. There is no admin panel configuration section like there is in FlashChat v5.0.x.

I am having a problem where people are leaving chat but it still shows them in the user list. The FC4 Who's chatting shows the correct number of people. For example, in the chat it showed 26 people in the room, but on the who's chatting it only showed 10, and the who's chatting was the correct number.
Any ideas?

Hey Paul. First, THANK YOU for making this integrator.
Unfortunately, I cannot seem to get this to work. I'm not getting any error messages, but when I try to log into FlashChat using my vBulletin administrator login/pass. When I try to login to chat/admin.php I get "Could not grant admin role for this login and password." When I try to login as a regular user, I get "Incorrect user name or password..."

No idea, your vb seems to be leaving out a slash in the url, so the filename appears as chatgetxml.php instead of getxml.php - and therefore isnt recognised.

I've tried four times to get this to work and each time I've been unsuccessful. My problem is when I go to http://www.northwestfirearms.com/forum/misc.php?do=flashchat it opens up the integrated window where flashchat should be, but I get this error inside the window "The requested URL /flashchat.php was not found on this server."
If I go to http://www.northwestfirearms.com/forum/chat/flashchat.php the integration works fine but it comes up in a full window, not integrated into the rest of the site.

/forum/chat/includes/xml/bitfield_fc4_38.xml

PaulM,
This post should actually be placed in your mod's description, somewhere...so others who are having the same issue after installing FlashChat can resolve it. It took me a day to actually find this answer. Must have been how I was going about it...
Anyhow...I know there has been a lot of issues about the popup menus from vBulletin's navbar disappearing behind the FlashChat window.
For a resolution, please see this thread located at Tufat's forum: http://forum.tufat.com/showthread.php?t=51853&highlight=vbulletin+menu&page=2
Hope you find it useful...
You might also want to include this with your other versions of this mod, as well.

Hmm, interesting. I will ned to play with that myself first, but if it works, I'll probably add it to the instructions.

Hi Paul, installed this on another website without a hitch except for the "Who in the Chat" hack. It is displaying some weird characters:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/
wacnstac
10-12-2009, 12:35 PM
Also there are a couple of other problems I am experiencing. First I get no window to enter text once in the chat:

Also it doesn't show the "A" next to me and I am the administrator.

Paul M
10-14-2009, 09:36 PM
To do what exactly ? I dont know what your issue is.
Also, this thread is not the who is in chat mod, please post any questions about that in the correct thread. :)

BTW my other problem with not being able to see a Flashchat input section was caused by having multiple masks set for a usergroup. Example Admin user group had both Spy mode and Admin access set. When two or more were selected for a usergroup the input portion of FlashChat went bye bye.
Paul M
10-15-2009, 01:16 PM
Indeed - you must only set one, if you set more than one then the highest "ranking" will take effect - and in this case, spy overrides admin, and a spy user has no input section.

Hi Paul M,
Thank you for this great hack. I certainly works like a charm.
I was just wondering, do you know how safe flashchat is? I've been hearing stories of forums getting hacked because of the many security holes involved in the software. Do you know the safest and most stabled version of flashchat? I don't want my website to get hacked over this software is all. Thank you in advance.

Dont believe everything you read. Only some older versions had a known security hole (on badly configured servers). The last 4.x version is fine.

I see that the last FlashChat stable 4 series download is 4.7.12 and some time back I ended up using 4.8.3 from Flashchat. That must have been some intermediate step, which I hope is OK with this Add-on.
Everything appears to work fine, except with the "drop down" quick link in the vB nav bar.
For Flash Chat, I'm getting a link to:
_______/forum/misc.php?do=flashchat&room=1
Which defaults to my error page.
A working link from Members currently using Flashchat:
_______/forum/chat/flashchat.php
I just updated vBulletin to 3.8.6 PL1 . ;)

Important Note:
I no longer use Flashchat (and havent for over 18 months).
The development and support of Flashchat at Tufat.com appears to have died in 2010 - the site owner has not been seen for almost a year, and even the developer who took over F/C version 6 has not logged in for at least two months. The last [beta] version was 6.0.8, released in June 2010.
Therefore after almost 6 years of supporting Flashchat Integration with vBulletin, I have decided I can no longer support my Flashchat modifications. I do not have it installed on my test sites anymore.
Anyone who wishes can of course continue to use them, and they should continue to work quite happily in 4.1 [for the moment]. However, any future issues caused by vb style or code changes may break them, and will most likely remain unfixed.
