Yes, just modify the link.

I've installed this and put everything where it should have gone and none of the links are popping up... this .ds store file that's with the product, where does that go? Forum root? Because If so...it still isn't working..

Twit page? as in tweet.php or tp.php and tt.php?

The .ds file is a mac database file that saves the location of files (as in arrangement) and isn't needed it. Did you add your details?

Where does the .svn folder go? In the forum directory or in the root? When you click on any folder that same .svn folder is in almost each one. Why is that?

i was researching and tinkering with the codes. I change mcrypt_encrypt(MCRYPT_3DES, COOKIE_SALT, $twitter['twitter_password'], MCRYPT_MODE_CBC
in bold and added RIJNDAEL and mode ECB and the problem went away.But i know you can use it because it's weak.Just an idea maybe in the future to look at.:)

Also... I noticed a feature in your screenshots that I don't see on my board after installation. "tweet this post' is only availble from the thread tools drop down. There's no link to it next to the permalink like in your example. Is that a defect?

This is amazing... Actually vbtwitter is working for my other users but not for me!
Whenever I try to tweet a thread nothing happens. How do I fix this?
also, it still says "check this out" for the users that twitter does work for? Thats only reason i upgraded! "Check this out" is mostly useless. There's been an 8 month discussion on that?

King, please make me a priority this morning.
I cleared the OAUTH fields to in an attempt to resetup my account to twtter. It allowed me to authenticate to twitter but now I cannot log into my site! whenever I use my password it tells me it cannot authenticate me. why is this?
Its definitely related to the vbtwitter app. only the users that I deleted the tokens for are having this problem. All the other users are not.
I'm absolutely sure i'm logging in correctly. please assist this is urgent becuase i have jobs we've been paid to post and cannot.

Hey King, I am having a problem (of course) :)
After I installed and configured vB Twitter (which was smooth and easy..THANKS!), it seems that I am having a problem making any post on twitter at all..in fact when I hit "Tweet this Thread!" all that seems to happen is a page refresh - no twitter.
Any ideas?

that means your application is set to read only. Even if you fix it you will still have problems. create a new application set it up as read & write access and then use it. if you use the application on the wrong settings in the beginning that user is screwed. you can change it to the correct settings and other users setting up the application will work fine but the user that authorizes the app under read only is screwed

If you uninstall and reinstall, it will remove OAuth tokens. I am not sure if deleting tokens such as that will screw everyone over...

This update only has check this out. That was intentional. All major feature updates, such as custom titles and links are found in v1.1. That has been the plan all along. I'm just tired of dealing with mcrypt so I made this quick update. I'm sorry that it isn't "up to your par," but it's all your going to get right now. Until v1.1 is ready, you'll have it. Give it the time it needs...

Hum... lenme double check.
Know what I will uninstall and install the product again. Thanks King, I will let you know. :)
Update:
King bear with me here please (or any other member willing to help me out) as I'm not expert or anything. The file named Upload.. when I try to upload anything from there it will give me an error, it only allows me to upload (trought products and plugins) the XML file. What should I do step by step please?.
Meaning, there's a file named vBTwitter v1.0.4==>Upload file/product XML==>Images/Includes/4 other files==>etcetc
When you say Upload files in the /upload/ folder of the .zip into the directories as is.
What are the directories? Sorry about my ignorance but I want to learn and do it myself.
Thanks :)

The upload folder is set up as a root folder. They need to be uploaded looking in the structure. So if you go into your forum root on your site through ftp, the 4 files go there. Then you go into /includes/ and upload those, etc.

Now, please tell us where we can make modifications:

2 - how to change the location of #1 above.
3 - how to change the default "Check this out" text.

1 & 3 = phrases. Search for phrase varnames starting with twitter_. 2 is a bit harder... It'll be much easier in the next version (right now, it searches the code). You could put the code in manually.

On #3 - I'm not afraid of tweeking the code to add manually, just now sure where to pull the actual code from, and where to insert it ...
A couple of new questions:
1 - now that I'm authorized, when I tweet a post or thread, I get no confirmation or any indication that it happened. It *DOES* happen, but as soon as I click on "Tweet This ...", the page reloads and there is no confirmation. As a result, I fear that our users will think it's broken, and will keep clicking the "Tweet This" over and over. Where am I supposed to be seeing a confirmation, or is this something that has to be enabled?
2 - because of the way the single post looks - I'd rather ONLY give the option to "tweet this thread" ... how can I change the code so that in the post headers, it's the "tweet this thread" option INSTEAD of the "tweet this post" option?
3 - when I did the initial oauth authorization, I was logged into the wrong twitter account. How can I deauthorize my twitter account with my userID and start over re-authorizing with my other twitter ID?
Thanks in advance!

Update on my post above - here's what I did ... I went to twitter.com and logged in as the user I do NOT want the tweets to post to - went to Settings > Connections, and revoked my VBTwitter app.
So now, when logged in as that user, it doesn't post to Twitter because of this, but the userID in vbulletin doesn't "know" it needs to be re-auth with a different account - when I attempt to use the "tweet this" links, I'm wanting to get a new oauth process, but nothing happens - how can I reset that userID in vbulletin to start over w/ oauth?
Well to answer them both. Tweet this post: do you want it as part of the thread? There's a switch for that. For the resetting, I believe you can reauthorize through the settings using the correct user information. Just go to twitter_auth.php again. (Not tested). And nice image. ;) And there's no confirmation in v1.0. It was a dumb design. And in v1.1 I plan on trying to add a little check mark through AJAX.

King,
Thanks ... I just deleted my followup ... I revoked permissions in Settings > Connections on the wrong twitter account, and then manually went into phpmyadmin and deleted the oauth info from my user profile in the mySQL database - maybe that wasn't the easy way, but it worked. Now, I went to tweet it and got the oauth, which i did on my correct account.
Is there a way to make it NOT do the "I have successfully setup ..." tweet on the first post? Users won't understand that they have to do their first "tweet this" twice - once for the oauth, and again for the actual post.

Can this mod allow auto-tweeting when a topic is created so that it tweets immediately to the users account (if they've set up their account in the options page??)
DoA
what about a reverse vbtwitter, where your members can link their twitter account to the website and everytime they tweet it is fed to the vb. so user tweets can show up on a CMPS or CMS?

Currently, the way that OAuth works, is that it doesn't send back any information. I can't say "tid" and have it returned. So, if they set it up first, it works. If not, they are screwed. Sorry to say it.

That would be like an RSS feed. But no.
That would be like an RSS feed. But no.
yea sorry, i realize this mod doesn't support something like that. yea exactly, an rss feed but defined by the users of your vbulletin who enter their twitter info. so members of your community can get t know each other better by browsing through their tweets on a CMPS page or forum index. just a suggestion.

If Guests can't see the forum, it shouldn't appear in Twitter, even if someone attempts to post it. However, you can also set Twitter permissions via Forum Permissions. You'll have to do it for each forum you wish to prevent from being "Tweeted".

No matter how many times you attempt to access something a private forum, if you don't have access, it won't show. All vBTwitter does is provide a way to post to Twitter and handle a relink back. vBulletin does the rest (showing the post, permissions, etc.).

Not a bad idea for v1.1 or v2.0 or later... But you have the wrong modification. ;)

Thanks for this great mod. I quickly glanced thru the past 38 pages, but can't seem to find this. Sorry if is repost.
Is there any settings that once a user submitted tweeter authorization, all his subsequent posts and threads are send to tweeter? That will be better instead of waiting for user action to tweet.
Something similar with facebook connect user, where all the threads and replies are posted to facebook profile.
Thanks

It seems like you are revoking permissions on Twiter's end, or it is attempting to redirect you. reinstall?

I tried searching but didn't find anything, but instead of storing password or prompting for a password, how do sites like Twitpic etc authenticate? They somehow pick up your authentication to twitter and they just work, I assume with something through the API.
Forgive me if this was posted already. I am interested in this but don't want to store any passwords unencrypted if possible and very little use integration.

To post the title for threads to Twitter, edit tweet.php
Find the section that starts with:
if($_GET['do'] == 'thread')
{
Find:
$twitter->OAuthRequest('https://twitter.com/statuses/update.xml', array('status' => $vbphrase['twitter_checkout'] . $vbulletin->options['bburl'] . '/tt.php?i=' . $vbulletin->GPC['id']), 'POST');
Change to:
$thread = $db->query_first("SELECT title FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread WHERE threadid = " . $vbulletin->GPC['id']);
$twitter->OAuthRequest('https://twitter.com/statuses/update.xml', array('status' => $thread['title'] .' - '. $vbulletin->options['bburl'] . '/tt.php?i=' . $vbulletin->GPC['id']), 'POST');
This only works when Twittering a thread.

Yes, I have several shortening steps. It first checks it using a full URL, then shortens the URL, then the title. It should work rather well. I am stuck with v1.1 because I came to depend on AJAX a lot and my AJAX developer left. :(

Depending on AJAX for what exactly?
By character checking, I'm assuming you meant for checking the title length?
I recommend you put the code on a service like OpenSVN (https://opensvn.csie.org/), Google Code (http://code.google.com/projecthosting/) or GitHub (http://github.com).

I thank you for removing the code. :) A private SVN is because this project isn't open source. Also, in terms of visible source, you have the problems of non-licensed users gaining access. And, if you would like an example of this, look @ vBulletin. That too is visible-source, but why don't we have access to the SVN repository? This is why I use my own private SVN server. And any developer on any of my project gains access.

Whenever I click the Tweet this link it brings up a message asking if I should allow access, I say yes and it errors out saying webpage is not found. I am using vBulletin 3.8.2.
It seems to be doing this on the call back url. I have it entered correctly.
This only happens right after install, all other attempts to tweet just reload the page with no errors.

If you're sending out Tweets via Twitter, doesn't it defeat the purpose of not allowing guests to see what you're talking about? By allowing Guests to view the posts, it has the possibility of driving your membership up.

Thanks for the plugin but I am not sure how I can make it works...
I am actually developing a huge customized skin for my vbulletin.
So far, I see the "Tweet this thread" under the "thread tools". When I click on it, it say that my tweet has been successfully sent with the following error on the top of the page:
Warning: array_merge() [function.array-merge]: Argument #1 is not an array in [path]/includes/init.php(301) : eval()'d code on line 5However, nothing is published into my Twitter account (I use both a test account on my vbulletin and test twitter account).
Beside this, nowhere and never appears the link to "Tweet this post". Only when I use the default template (which is what I don't want) and it returns the same error as above.
At last, I am using vbulletin 3.8.4 and my board has been translated into french.
Thank for any idea how to debug this.

My tips and tricks of the day:
Remove the "tweet this" link, insert twitter icon only in first post, and tweet thread instead of just individual posts:
1) go to plugins, disable *Add "Tweet this Post!"* and *Add "Tweet this Thread!"*
2) in style manager, open postbit template
3) find: <if condition="$show['postcount']">#<a href="showpost.php?$session[sessionurl]p=$post[postid]&postcount=$post[postcount]" target="new" rel="nofollow" id="postcount$post[postid]" name="$post[postcount]"><strong>$post[postcount]</strong></a> </if>
Add after: <!-- twitter -->
<if condition="$post[postcount] == 1">
<a href="tweet.php?do=thread&id=$thread[threadid]&c=$thread[threadid]"><img class="inlineimg" src="http://www.yourdomain.com/images/twitter-icon.gif" alt="Tweet this!" style="border-style: none"/></a>
</if>
<!-- / twitter -->
4) upload attached twitter-icon.gif image to your /images folder
5) follow ClipBucket's changes in posts 573 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=1866772#post1866772) and 574 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=1866776#post1866776).
Voila. You have what looks like:
- Example thread on my website http://www.ohio-riders.com/showthread.php?t=34530
- Example tweets on twitter http://twitter.com/benstillman
I've done something similiar with the Facebook submit, so I wanted the Tweet this to somewhat match. Even as a guest (or without your facebook info in your profile), it'll still work. It just asks you to log in and allow it.

There's something odd with the zip file. Anyone else having issues downloading and unzipping it?
Update: Ah, not sure what was wrong, but it with my PC. I will usually right-click on the zip file and choose "Extract all. . ." but that Vista unzip feature was acting up tonight.
hey there...

"Once a user defines their Twitter username & password within their vB Options (User CP -> Edit Options), the Tweet This X links will appear."
There are no fields for this in usercp -> edit options.
Do I need to create custom fields?
Edit: Would it be possible to make it tweet the thread title too? Can that edit be done in the same template as "Check this out" can be edited?
Edit2: Thanks for the mod btw. This is an amazing marketing tool.

That's awesome. I can't wait. I think this has to be one of the most useful mods I have installed to date. Right now I'm the main one using it, but I'm getting a couple unique visitors every day as a direct result of tweeting threads.

You MUST fill in the login on the redirect, then 'retweet' the one you want. There is no way around this. And please use the forums.
You mean login when it asks you to login after tweeting the thread? I've done that it then it takes me to my Twitter account and still nothing.

Hello Jeremy and everybody...
I've had this mod installed at http://wlsjourney.org for some months now. For some odd reason it has stopped working. The links show as you can see here (http://wlsjourney.org/community-forums/journey-community/questions-comments-feedback/476-interesting-facebook-exchange-administrators-reaction-someone-downing-wls.html)... Could there be some conflict with this mod and Tweetboard perhaps? IDK what the issue is really - any ideas?
Thanks,

I'm trying to set up my Twitter settings through the UCP, I go to Edit Options and click on 'Setup integration by clicking here.' This takes me to a twiiter page (https://twitter.com/oauth/authorize?oauth_token=) that says
'This page is no longer valid. It looks like someone already used the token information you provided. Please return to the site that sent you to this page and try again … it was probably an honest mistake.'
I'm assuming I'm getting this error because there's no oauth_token provided? But I don't know how to resolve the problem. I've created OAuth Application and everything (though I don't know if I need to provide my consumer key/secret in the ACP for it work?) Thanks for the help.

King,
did you ever release the patch that will allow us to change the "check this out" to the title of the forum?
I'm curious. Been waiting a year and I last remember you said a new version that would have this would be released. But the last version I have is only an authentication update.
Please let me know. If its not gong to be soon i will see about getting it developed. But you've always said it would be released within weeks.
So where is version 1.1?
waiting for that too.....

I'm sorry that I don't have time to be on here 24/7 to answer questions. My time for the past few months has been school -> home -> homework -> work -> bed. So, yeah, I don't have time to sit down and develop this to your standards. Its FREE! And v1.1 has about 10x more features planned than v1.0 would ever have had, so it takes more time.

Everyone gets older waiting for everything. What's the point in applying to a school, when I get older waiting for a reply? A job? A paycheck? The difference is this isn't my entire life. I don't spend every minute of every day on my computer developing.

Sarcasm won't me get it done faster... or even help my will to finish it.
Guys this is funny. Watch for this posting to be deleted.
A while back I asked King if there was a immediate release of VBtwitter coming. He told me not worry 1.1 was around the corner. A few months later I asked again just cause I was willing to invest in the product myself. Being that he was on a school break he said he was working on a release to be made.
lol...Almost a year from the original question I asked again, politely, like I always do. His reply to me is in the quote above.
lol... dude really, i'm just asking if your going to do it because you've been working on it a year. Microsoft built a brand new extra complicated OS called windows 7 (beta) from scratch in that time.
My point is:
1. Why give an expectation? And if you aren't gung ho about developing it anymore just say so and move on. You did such a good job with the first release many have refused to delevop it because everyone is waiting on your next release.
2. if your working on something for a year and getting no where maybe ask for help. if you've actually been "working" on it.
3. Its free. Why be a jerk about it when a simple question is posed. You set the expectation it would be there. Not any of us.
4. I've noticed the number of installs decreasing or staying stagnant over time. Just saying...
I only want a simple answer. Are you still developing and if so when is a realistic release date? If not can we continue to develop your mod independently of you.
I've been asking the latter since April... :eek:

Your "polite" replies have always been sarcastic and demanding. That's all I will say on that subject. Now, to comparing the amount of time it has taken me to developing this to Windows 7 is rather unfair. Microsoft has thousands of developers working 8 hour days, 5 days a week to develop the software. There's 1. Who can only devote at max, 2 hours a day to finishing this problem.
1. It will be released. I set the expectation and fail on it because of my life currently. My life isn't all peachy keen right now, and it's really hard for me to focus on school, let alone on anything else.
2. Who says I'm "stuck"? I only said that I lost my AJAX developer, so AJAX may not come to vBTwitter in v1.1.
3. The "simple" question has been posted several times by you, and the same answer has been given each and every time.
4. I don't care about number of installs. If only 1 person used my product, it would make me happy that one person has been helped by this program. Installs don't matter in my book.
Yes, I'm still developing it. A realistic release date? Within the next 200 years should cover it. Set the expectation realistic enough for you?
mykkal

Hilarious!
Actually your responses got more vague over time. I hope your life does get much more manageable for you.
But yea you did set some expectations and if people are taking you at your word at least tell us whats up before we have to ask you.
or if your giving updates... maybe put them in the first portion of the thread because this entire communication is too long to read entirely.
its not like people don't want what you have and I have even offered to pay for it to make it worthy of your time.
you've been pretty much a jerk about this subject.

Ok, something happened today ! I logged onto Twitter and my account had a message saying "I have successfully set up my account to work with vbtwitter at one of the sites that I visit - this message means that it was successful".
And sure enough, when I selected to tweet a thread it appeared on my twitter page. So everything seems ok after all, except that while I can tweet a thread I can't tweet an individual post.

^Whatever folder your forum files are in. So if a file was in 'upload/admin', you'd upload it to the forum admin folder, etc.

There's an application signup question that your instructions don't mention :
Use Twitter for login: [ ] Yes, use Twitter for login
...so I'm not checking that box for now. Hopefully that's what I'm supposed to do.

Yes, please leave that unchecked. I am not sure what that can do to your board, since no support has been coded.

There is unreleased experimental code. I have restructured my release goals, with the hopes of a faster release.

I can't get posts from my forum to show up as tweets on my twitter site.
On the Connections Tab in my Twitter Profile Settings I see a "No applications have been approved to use your account." message but I can see the application settings when I go to http://twitter.com/apps.
Any ideas on why my posts won't show up? I got the keys and put them into my vBulletin admin settings.
EDIT: Got it to work. Had to edit my User CP options and set it up to allow access.
"Once a user defines their Twitter username & password within their vB Options (User CP -> Edit Options), the Tweet This X links will appear."
That should be in bold print and underlined lol....in order to make this mod work, make sure to do this....:P

I'd love to have this too and maybe the first few words from the post.
so the 160 twitter limit is filled up automatically.
ok after playing little bit around with this add-on I have some feature requests *g*
Tweets like this:
breadcrumb - title - post teaser - link
filled up to max 160 characters
and the possibility to preview and edit the tweet before final submission
link (for the tweet) changeable in admincp settings for being able to add own, alternative short domain name
instructions for url rewrites via mod_rewrite
I would really appreciate that

Any chance of getting this for vB4.0.x? That would be awesome. Currently it messes up the edit profile setting page if installed on vB4.0.x. I didn't get far enough to see if it worked once the twitter account was set up in UserCp.

I get to the point where I see the Tweet this! over the message creation box, but when I click it nothng happens.
In my User CP I only find a "Setting up integration with Twitter through this forum will turn on any "Tweet This" feature on this site. Setup integration by clicking here." I click, get the message asking if I allow it, say OK, get redirected to my forum, and nothing more. I don't find any place where I can add my Twitter account info to my vB account.
Any suggestion?

Did you go to User CP->Edit Options->Scroll down to vbTwitter????? It should take you to twitter.
I don't see any options in the CP -> Edit Options either.
I installed everything, made temp changes, entered the auth codes, see them in my database. When I clicked Tweet This under Thread Tools the first time, I get taken to Twitter asking me if I authorize this action. Everything seems to be working except nothing happens when I Tweet This and there are no option in the Control Panel.
vB 3.8.6 patch 1, PHP 5.2
Like some of you I was looking for another forum software after trying to deal with vB 4.0 but gave up on it after consulting the forum members on changing the forum and I don't have the time to make it look the same now.
Would love to be able to Tweet from this forum.
Thanks in advance for all your hard work.

I disabled the product, upgraded to VB4, and than decided to uninstall it.
This is the error I get when trying to uninstall version 1.0.3
Invalid SQL:
ALTER TABLE `vb3_user` DROP COLUMN `twitter_size`;
MySQL Error : Can't DROP 'twitter_size'; check that column/key exists
Error Number : 1091
So it won't go past that step, and I can't uninstall it now. What should I do?

> Then i click allow i get the "oops" page. (see image)

First of all, thanks for this add-on !
How would it be possible to make it tweet the URL and the thread title ?
Do you plan on adding URL shortener integration (ie Bit.ly) ?
Oh and I'd like to restrict this Tweet function to a few forums, not all my forums. How do I do it ?

Use http://twitterfeed.com - just feed it the RSS URL for your forum and set it to check every minute or so.

hi - Noob here. I installed this on my server, and the settings page became all garbled. When I disabled the plugin, it fixed the issue.
Is this a CURL issue? or something else, perhaps?
