vB Ad Management

This modification allows you to add advertisements to your vBulletin software. It's very easy to use, very quick and allows almost unlimited customisation. There is no restriction regarding the content you can use. Adsense, images, flash, plain text and you can use template conditionals and phrases as well. It will put anything, anywhere. Just about.

Forum Ad Management is an add-on for this which adds the same features to forum advertisements.

So if you want things like ads at the bottom of every page, you only need vB Ad Management. If you want things like ads with posts, you need Forum Ad Management as well.

Added an anti-affiliate link manager. Actually, it's the same manager. Since it was trivial to do, as a bonus the link manager can deal with referral link spam by removing the affiliate IDs from links or by replacing the links entirely with a different link to a website of your choice.
If that works as promissed, great STUFF!!! I love ur Ad Management System.... Great STuff!

Yep, it's there in the changelog (http://redtyger.co.uk/manual.php?product=vB+Ad+Management&version=5.00+Beta#changelog). The reason was that none of the other sections had a similar option and I decided it was a lot simpler and more consistent to just remove it. I'm not convinced it was a good idea but I've had no complaints as yet.

Yes, I'll put the option back if enough people are bothered by it being missing.

You should be able to replicate it by adding a custom block, setting it to use the SHOWTHREAD template and then inserting it above Quick Reply. Same goes for the other places where a "Display with last" option would be useful, so it's probably a better option overall, if less convenient.

Of course!

Search for $ad_location[ad_showthread_firstpost_start] in the postbit template and after it add $vbam_location[post_message] (note at the end). Set your ads to display every 1 post, choose the post_message template hook from the menu and for your adcode use this:

The conditional is what restricts it from really appearing every 1 posts so if you're using other postbit adcode you'll have to work conditionals around it.

While I'm on the subject, if anyone wants to include an advertisement with the last post before/if the option is added back in, just use this conditional:

I've installed this and am using it in my header. As said, gotta hit edit twice... Not a show stopper for me but would be nice to have fixed.

My other question... I believe it was this modification that previously allowed me to include an ad after every X post and after X threads, etc... Very flexible. I see all of that was removed (unless I'm thinking of another mod). Any way to put these back, I thought they were great.

Before it had "with X posts" and "every X posts". With this version it was added to thread and forum lists as well.

Think I found another bug.

If I'm writing a PM to someone and a google ad is appearing in my header, I get "Page loaded but with errors" and the message wont send. I have a regular OpenAd which rotates with the google ad. If the Open Ad is showing, I receive no errors and the PM sends with no problem.

Tested it with vBSEO and with vBSEO temporarily disabled. Makes no chance. Problems still exists.

BTW - i tested it with the vbSEO 3.3 PR and the actually Stablerelease.

If it has still something to do with vBSEO it could be only the .htaccess:

One bug we've run across, the option Allow HTML in shared adcode does not work when set to YES, as HTML is not parsed. I have a small team of creative people I trust, so security is not a problem for this usergroup and it would be nice to give them some freedom.

OUt of curiosity, I've checked the vB ad mod code and after changing this line in "ajax_start" hook:

it started working (not sure if that's the best way to resolve the issue in that mod though).

The auto refresh doesnt work, and on IE on the bottom left is shows errors so I searched the lines that were causing errors (3 of them) it states it as a syntax error

it appears to have to do with the auto refresh, which explains why it dont refresh.

so I found the code in the php file but not sure how to fix it

anyway that did fix the syntax errors , now it does refresh but the new problem is that when it refreshes it just disappears so for example I see the first ad for 10 seconds and then it goes away, and I am separating the ads using the "|" delimiter.

I can only suggest you double-check your usergroup settings, I've not had that reported as a bug from anyone else yet.

Yes, you can do whatever you want with it more or less.

I was just covering myself with distaster :) I haven't heard of any yet. Stable should be a week or two. It should work on 3.6 but I've not tried it, so no guarantees.

It doesn't do that by default, but if you use a conditional in every adcode block it will have the same effect. You'll have to ask on vbulletin.com what the conditional is, I don't know it.

Search for $ad_location[ad_showthread_firstpost_start] in the postbit template and after it add $vbam_location[post_message] (note at the end). Set your ads to display every 1 post, choose the post_message template hook from the menu and for your adcode use this:

Is everyone running this stable with vB 3.8? Just curious. I have vbSEO 3.2 and Vbulletin 3.8 installed. So I'm wondering if anyone is using ad management with that configuration.

Upgrading isn't as easy as a new installation, it is true. Unfortunately, it was a necessary evil.

That should be easier, not more difficult. Just go to the Posts section (Forum Ad Management add-on) and choose 15 where it asks you.

Sorry to hear it doesn't suit your forum. If the situation changes in that regard I'll let you know. I'm not aware of any vulnerabilities in anything I've done though.

All hook locations are listed in the auto-insertion dropdown menu with each adcode block. Any you add yourself are automatically included in the menu.

Yes, but this is almost certainly easier to do just by editing the forum template rather than running it through an advertisement.

There's a whole bunch of modifications or just instructions to do the template edit if you search for "forum sponsors" or something along those lines.

It's untested but should work correctly. If not, it's a place to start.

That file doesn't exist in the 5.xx version, sounds like you still have parts of the old vB Ad Management running. Have a re-read through the upgrade instructions in the manual.

Since update to 5.01 none of my ads are working. Footer advertisement even breaks my style (it is or rather *was* javascript). Adding a simple text didn't display either.

Header advertisement just doesn't display anymore.
Installed 5.01, imported settings from v4, installed forum addon, imported settings as well and uninstalled v4 via addons and plugins. Addiotional menu in ACP disappeared. Result is the one mentioned above. Previews are working fine for header and was well for footer ads.

Any hints?

Got vbSEO installed too, but wasn't able to find the file where fixes need to be made (not even sure whether this is my problem as deactivating vbseo didn't help either).

vBSEO problems are now fixed as far as I know.

Have a look if the ad templates can be reverted and revert them if so. They're all called advertisement_something.

Page errors as in on the actual page? Or a pop-up javascript error? If the latter, make sure you have the latest javascript files uploaded, they changed in the latest version. Otherwise I need to see the whole message.

It's just the same as a page load, so unless they have something to detect differences it almost certainly will do.

Hmmmm. I was told this was much more efficient than the others, although that was an earlier version. Is there any obvious pattern or cause? Or does it leap simply when it's turned on doing nothing?

No stats. There's no way any modification is going to be able to do anything remotely as good as a third party tracking system, I'm not even going to try. It wouldn't be in anyone's best interest. Look into Google Analytics or something similar.

i possibly have a problem with the affiliate code part of the plugin.

I get a lot of clickbank ads on my site so was lookiung to try and use the affiliate section to auto parse these to include my link instead.

when i try to use the preview part to check if it works it says

i was wondering if clickbank codes would be supported as they use subdomain info instead of a parameter after the url.

You must be using a very old version of PHP, that error means the function doesn't exist. You could try opening the vbam_functions.php file and replacing every instance of mb_strpos with strpos.

3. Tried the Beta yesterday for the first time. It didn't seem to work, and template code didn't match the directions.

Before I tried used BETA, one of my admins updated the forum from 3.8 to 3.8.1. Unfortunately, I had only installed vbam, but had not tried configuring it. So, I tried configuring it yesterday (3/9/09). First I tried the affiliate link feature. I found a spam affiliate link in my forum, added a rule to replace the aff-id with nothing, turned on the affiliate feature, previewed, and the preview looked correct. However, the post remained unchanged. Next, I turned on the signature affiliate checker, added a dummy affiliate link to my signature, created a rule to modify it, previewed it, saved it (not necessarily in that order) and my signature was unchanged. I then created a brand new post with the same dummy aff link, and it was unchanged.

The next thing I tried was posting some adsense code in the right column. It seemed to preview alright, but no right column showed up. I found the help text on getting the right column to show up, but there was no div tag in the template for the ad's right column.

Today, I got the email on 502, so set out to upgrade. After installing 502 (the XML file via product manager, which overwrote the beta one) and uploading the upload folder (which also overwrote the beta files), I saw no change. I did not see two VBAM menus in the ACP. My settings appeared preserved, and the functions I that didn't work yesterday still do not work. I have refreshed, and even logged out and back in, and that has done the trick in the past, so I'm pretty sure I'm seeing what I would see.

Any help is appreciated!

No problems with that.

When I go into the header adcode and put in <img src = "PCO.jpg" /> and do an update preview, all is see is the box with the red X in it.

I know this means that it did not find the image.

Where do the images have to reside on my server, or, is there a spot that I have not see where I can configure the path?

Start it with a /, so src="/PCO.jpg" would be in the your forum's main directory, src="/images/PCO.jpg" would be in your forum's images directory, and so on. If your forum is not at the very top level (i.e. the domain goes straight to your forum) then you'll have to make it /forum/images/PCO.jpg or something like that.

I went ahead and installed version 5.0.2 just now, following you installation instructions, but unfortunately it's not working for me (3.8.1 base install, not patch level 1 yet). The new menu options shows up in the admincp, but whenever I select any item from the menu (e.g. Global Settings) all I get is a blank white frame on the left side, as though it can't find the core PHP files.

I checked to make sure I had uploaded the correct files to the correct locations. I even downloaded the package again from here, and went about the whole installation again. No dice.

Your footer tag shows up on my forums, but unfortunately I can't get the system to function. Appreciate any assistance.

In IE I have only one swf flash working (header next to logo) and all other banners are not showing at all. ( google ads and some swf that was previously showing in IE) All banner locations not visible including left column does not exist at all. Is not like there is the space for banners and the banners are not showing. Is like there are no space at all for banners.

Good grief, that certainly is old! You may be able to deal with these incompatibilities in .htaccess to save you altering any code. I'm not familiar with this sort of compatibility thing though, so I couldn't tell you I'm afraid.

That modification is almost a total copy of version 2.1 of this modification, which is why it was graveyarded. There may well be conflicts between the two since they are (or were) essentially the same thing.

So I guess I'd suggest removing both modifications completely before installing this one to make absolutely sure.

The advertisement_rightcolumn template is the one I was referring to. I have since followed the instructions to make the right column visible, and it is still not visible. So, I look at the FAQ at http://redtyger.co.uk/manual.php?product=vB+Ad+Management&version=5.02#faq_columns_location, and am not sure if it applies to me. I cannot find global.start.php anywhere in my forum's directories. And anyways, I am running with the default vBulletin template, with only minor modifications.

You suggested that my problems could be my settings. Here are the settings I am aware of that could interfere with showing the right-column, and the values I have them set to.


vbAdManagement->GlobalSettings->Enable Advertisments = Yes
vbAdManagement->GlobalSettings->Enable Advertisments for usergroups = 6 (Note that I am in group 6)
vbAdManagement->GlobalSettings->Do NOT Enable Advertisments for usergroups = BLANK

I also tried choosing different values from the drop-down menu for vbAdManagement->Right Column->Right Column Inclusion, but the only value that I ever see after saving is $ad_location[ad_footer_start].

Hi, ive successfully added ads to my forum footer.

I also want to use the same adcode on the redirect page.

I added a custom adblock, pointing at the STANDARD_REDIRECT template.
I have tried using 'bottom' as the location, as well as editing the template to add a custom field $vbam_location[ad] but either way I cant get the ads to show.
The actual ad code is the same as is working in the footer.

Any ideas?

You can just add a link to http://redtyger.co.uk into your forum yourself where you'd prefer it to go, if it's there already the modification will not add it again.

If you wanted to do that, there's no reason you couldn't just use an adcode block for a notice instead of an advertisement. Or use <phrase 1="$vboptions[bburl]">$vbphrase[vbam_remove_ads]</phrase> in your templates, it points to the registration page and says "Remove advertisements" by default.

After entering a different add code in each of the fields, next to the field make another small field to enter the number of times that add should be multiplied. So if you would want for example to make an add show up 99% of time you would not need to enter the same code 99 times. LIke;

You'd have to edit the product code, look for the Sponsors section in the main product file. Where it says footer, try changing it to navbar. No promises though.

All of the text in the modification is an editable phrase, just search the phrase database and change it to what you want.

Rotation is not "live" it will pick a random banner per page load. To use live rotation, you should use the ajax refresh which works just the same way, but will change it every X seconds.

Sorry for the dumb question, but how do you place the ad banner on the header to the right side of the logo picture? If I choose the header end location it puts the banner under the logo.
Also, how do you use pull down menu? I have to type the location code manually, the pull down doesn't seem to do anything if I choose another location?

I also tried choosing different values from the drop-down menu for vbAdManagement->Right Column->Right Column Inclusion, but the only value that I ever see after saving is $ad_location[ad_footer_start].

Anything else you think I should look at?

In reference to my problem above, I think I'm getting closer to understanding what might be the problem. Hopefully this will be able to get me a solution.

I added my google adsense code with #field5# in the publisher ID. I have also added my publisher ID to the default area in the event that field5 is empty. When I go to a page where the threadstarter has an accurate adsense ID in field5, the website pauses, probably about 5 seconds, then loads with the default ads instead. I've turned on debug mode for my user, but I don't really know what I'm looking for that will show me the error.

I've used AIN adsense manager, and it works well in displaying user's ads on their threads (yes, I know you are going to ask, I have disabled AIN). The issue, though, is that I want the ability to not just display adsense code. I like the ability to display other ads.

Do I need to set a conditional so that their ad is displayed upon their post? I don't think so, since the website pauses only pages with threads that weren't started by me. I believe the code is trying to display their ads, but it is failing and then defaults to display mine (remember, their publisher IDs are entered correctly because it works with AIN).

I'm in need of some guidance and expertise with this. This code has huge potential for me. If I can get it working, I promise a donation :) .

I can put ad in the header, but it only shows up under the logo (if I choose header end as location). But I want to put ads next to the logo. Ideally in the center of area to the right of the center of the header so to say... Any help on how to do that would be appreciated...

What i want is to left justify my logo and then have an ad box right justified. I can't seem to get it to put anything in that area.

Style = Blue Web2.0 and using VB's built in google ads option.

Any help? I tried $ad_location[logo.gif] and $template_hook[logo.gif] (thinking this would make it search for my logo.gif file and place it directly after it, didn't work.

ive included a set of usergroups in teh EXCLUDE field... but the ads are still displaying in the areas where i have told the forum ad management module to put them.

im not sure if this is a problem this piece or the other... anyhelp?

Ok, taking a more detailed look, it seems that Vb ad management 4 has been broken down into 2 different mods. (VB ad management 5 and forum ad management) also some featured like e-mail ads overlap on both version. Another great feature is now missing (Display advertisement after last post on a page). Why has this been separated into 2 mods?

Will I still be able to use the VBads 4 on 3.8.2? That version has all the features i need since I do not use adsharing. Also, I have purchased the brand free version for VBadm 5, will I be able to use the BF version on VBadm 4?

Please let me know since I can't get my forum going until I fix this problem.

Note that each opening <if condition tag must also have a closing </if>tag each. Comparing to the forum ID is not the only condition you can evaluate, you can also make use of other values:

* Various other subdivisions of $bbuserinfo such as $bbuserinfo[userid], which is the current user's ID.
* $threadinfo[threadid], the current thread ID.
* THIS_SCRIPT, the current definition of THIS_SCRIPT.

There are many many more, but you can evaluate any value of any kind against any other. If a value is not set such as when evaluating $threadinfo[threadid] when outside a thread or when spelling a value incorrectly, it will default to being defined as 0. Lets see some examples.

Yes, I've always had the same problem with this mod.

I can get it to work everywhere, but not on the header.

I've tried it on the default style and also a custom style.

Any suggestions?

I have no issues with the ads in my header working, the product works very well, acept for the auto refresh :cool:

Just added (in my case) the $ad_location[ad_header_logo]

And made sure the Right Header Inclusion script is selected or in the box

Also, turn on the Header Ad in the add management script
