Could someone modify this star image to look a little better, and have a matte for both a dark background and a light background.

Ive been playing with it, and i keep screwing it up.

Also, I need a red, bronze and silver star (this same one coloured differently) but it would be nice to keep the gradient effect that exists on this star if you look closely.

How do you want the image to look better? In what way? More crisp, 3D, or.... That will help me.

more crisp, you can see the edges look very rough, especially on light backgrounds.

There also needs to be two sets with different mattes for both light and dark backgrounds please.

Thanks I appreciate it.

Here's what they will look like on light and dark coloured backgrounds. Resizing rasterized images always results in quality loss so this is the best i could do at short notice. At the current dimensions they are 19x19px but I could go up a pixel see if the 1 pixel difference will make any difference. I'll go back now and try it and show off 2 previews (top being 19px and the bottom 20px.

Forget it, re-sizing rasterized images always results in quality loss there's no difference.

Anyway, Here's the preview (below) If you think they will look better let me know and i'll save them out to a preferred background colour of your choice or whatver format you need.

they look great, and Id be happy to use them.

The only thing I see is is that the gradient goes from bottom left, to top right.... im not complaining, But i was hoping to keep the same type of gradient that seems to eminate from the middle going outwards.... like a sphere gradient or something.

None the less, they look great, and surely better than my weak attempts :)

These are the vbulletin images from the (GDK) graphical development kit. Bare in mind that even though these graphics are residing in a .psd file the source of the creation of the gdk was not photoshop, but lightwave so photoshop doesn't retain any blending options that you can alter like gradient overlay, inner shadow etc you have to add layers to existing effects. The gradient you see is the gradient jellysoft embedded into the layer. I'll tweak them a little and post them below along with the .psd file (located in the .zip archive) so you can tinker around with them. You'll need a editor which supports layers and able to open psd.

I've saved them as .png so they should fit on any background.

I thought i replied to this before, but apparently i didnt press "post" ..... anyway, they look great, is there anyway to convert them to gif files?

They are meant to replace the extended reputation stars except I cant seem to figure out how to make it use those png files.

Yeah sure, what colour background are they being applied onto? that way they will blend in without redundant matting.

there going on about 5 different background colours..... thats why i was hoping for something generic for a light and a dark background.....not sure what to do about that.

Why don't you use the .png variants I posted. You can always go into the style css and add replacement variables so the existing star icons pull the .png which will result in the icons looking seamless against all your backgrounds on all your styles.

At the very bottom of your "all style options" page for each style (where you input the css values, etc) you'll see a box titled "Replacements Variables". Click "Add new replacement variable", select the style you want different images to show in. In the Search for Text box type in the original url, eg /images/icons and in the Replace with Text box type in the new url to the images, for example /newstyle/images/icons

I didn't know I could do that, Before I resort to that though, I'll see if I can find a way to get the hack/reputation system to use the png files for those 3 images instead of looking for a gif.

Sure, Gold star in .png format in the attachment (Below). I re-coloured 3 variations so you have a variety and a choice of which one suits your needs best.
