vBulletin 3.8.1

vBulletin 3.8.1 is the first maintenance release of the vBulletin 3.8 series. Maintenance releases will follow our scheduled release policy (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=273299).

vBulletin 3.8.1 fixes a number of bugs found since 3.8.0 was released. Some of the issues fixed include:
Rejecting a group transfer requests removes all transfer requests (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=27227)
Profile privacy only hides information in limited cases (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=27222)
Column mismatch when disabling social group messages (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=27244)
Bad social group display when icons are disabled (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=27130)
JavaScript error when dismissing a notice (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=27149)
Social group icons not removed from filesystem/"new groups" list properly when deleted (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=27234)
Birthdays shown on wrong day in specific cases (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=27223)
Social group home page lacks proper float containment (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=27108)A full list can be found in the bug tracker (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/projectsearch.php?do=dosearch&projectid[0]=6&issuestatusid[0]=4&addressedmix[addressedversion][0]=105&sort=lastpost&sortorder=desc).

Social Group Subscription Temporarily Disabled

Due to confusion over the functionality provided, vBulletin 3.8.1 has temporarily disabled the ability to subscribe to entire social groups. You may still subscribe to individual social group discussions.

We are planning to improve this feature and re-implement it for the release of vBulletin 3.8.2.

If you wish to re-enable the feature yourself, you can remove the HTML comment around the "subscribe to this group" link in the socialgroups_group template.

Upgrading from Previous Versions

3.8.1 is a maintenance release. We recommend that all customers running prior versions of vBulletin 3.8 upgrade to benefit from bug fixes and stability improvements.

Full instructions for upgrading vBulletin are available here. (http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/upgrade)

PHP and MySQL Requirements

Please note that vBulletin 3.8.x requires at least PHP 4.3.3 and MySQL 4.0.16 or later.

However, we recommend that vBulletin 3.8.x is run on PHP 5.2.8 with APC (or a similar opcode cache) and MySQL 5.1.30 for best performance and stability.

End of Life for PHP 4

PHP 4 has now reached its end of life. We strongly recommend that customers update their servers to PHP 5.2.8 if they are still running PHP 4. vBulletin 3.8.x supports PHP 5 without any problems, though you may need to disable strict mode for MySQL, see here (http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/editconfig) on how to enable 'force_sql_mode'.

Note: We will continue to support PHP 4 in the vBulletin 3 series.

Download vBulletin 3.8.1

As usual, vBulletin 3.8.1 is available for all customers with valid, active licenses to download from the vBulletin Members' Area.

vBulletin Members Area (http://members.vbulletin.com/)

Please do not use this thread for support questions.

You cannot, you need to download the complete zip from members area.

Upload/overwrite all files except images/ (if you're upgrading from 3.8.0)

Then run upgrade.php

File edits: You'll have to do it again with new files.
Template edits: Manually edit them if you want to keep your customizations or revert them.

ok, im going to check what the changed files are & upload those files, but does the upgrade affect my vbadvanced?

List of changed files are mentioned in the vbcom announcement thread.

No, vba 3.1 is not affected in any way.

vBulletin 3.8.1 is the first maintenance release of the vBulletin 3.8 series. Maintenance releases will follow our scheduled release policy (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=273299).

The URL quoted above doesn't seem to work. It gives me an error:

No Graphic specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator

Can the Group leader send emails/private messages to the group members in bulk?

I think that was supposed to be a vb.com link, not a vb.org link - http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=273299

Have a question about requirements: its says that "we recommend that vBulletin 3.8.x is run on PHP 5.2.8 with APC (or a similar opcode cache) and MySQL 5.1.30 for best performance and stability."

Does that mean The version has to be exactly the one listed above for optimal performace or can it be a newer version as long as its not older then the version listed above.

Thanks

You can use vBulletin 3.8 with PHP 4+, but if you have 5.2.8+ or 5.1.30+, you will get increased performance speeds.

Ok, but the thing that concerns me more is that i do have the newest version of each installed on my server but which is better, to have the latest version or revert to the version that VB recommended for best performance?

Just go with the latest stable version.
