We have some sub-forums that have passwords.

Sometimes we change the passwords when certain members are no longer permitted into that area.

Recently it has been bought to my attention that if a member subscribes to a thread in the sub-forum they will continue to get email updates from that sub-forum even though they were not given the new password.

Is there anyway i can stop this?

How about just user usergroups and completly block their access to the forum instead of using passwords. Passwords are ineffecient and are not a true way to lock out a forum.

Of if you want to do on an individual user basis, use access masks.

Thanks for the reply, what are access masks?

We use the subforums as members journals, each member is a mod of their own journal and have the power to change their own passwords.
We have over 20 "journals" so it would be alot of work for me to create a usergroup for each "journal"
