What is the reason why people don't upgrade to latest VB version? Should I upgrade right away? What does "Beta" mean.

Sorry super tech knob here:)

You shouldn't upgrade live sites to beta versions. Those are versions which have bugs, and are expected to under go more changes.

Loads of reasons for not upgrading, such as no time, no reason, server won't handle it, etc etc

I have one board that wouldn't benefit from the changes in 3.7 or 3.8. It also has mods that were made for 3.6 that we are fairly dependent on. So there's no point in upgrading.

A lot of people don't upgrade straight away because they may have a very customised style and therefore it takes preparation to update that style with all the necessary changes.

Yep, that is why it took me a while. I had to make myself tackle at least 5 templates a day in order to get ready for the upgrade.

And hacks that are not compatible yet. Sometimes it takes a while before all hacks are updated. Some you need to loose, because they stop working. Others may be essential for your board, so there is no way to upgrade until there is a solution.

after being burned a few times with v1.0 relative releases I'm now quite comfortable to wait 6 months or more and allow others to identify the pitfalls. being on the bleeding edge is only fun when you're real young, or when the rewards for success are so great as to totally swamp the associated risks.
