vBulletin 3.0 Modifications [Archive]

Now that vBulletin 3.8 has been released we intend to archive the vb 3.0 forums in the next few weeks - in the same manner that the vb 2.x forums were archived last year.

Once archived, the forums will become read only and no downloads will be possible - so if for some reason you still need copies of 3.0 modifications then you will need to download them in the next few weeks.

At this moment in time we are not planning to archive the 3.5 forums, but once vb 4.0 is released we will revisit that decision.

i dun think so because some of them is still running on 3.7

if they want to remove they will remove the older version of the vbulletin like 3.0 or x

but not 3.6 3.7 and 3.8

3.0 does not use products .. all other versions after that use products .. so i think they not gonna remove mods after 3.0

Wow, that's shocking news!

Especially the 3.5 to 3.6.x addons are a never ending source of inspiration to me. It seems to me that around the time 3.5 evolved some very creative minds joined forces to produce some high quality bits and bytes for the community. Many of them left or do not have the time to continue their great work but nevertheless keep their quality work a little longer. :)

Nothing is happening to the 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 or 3.8 sections :)

I would suspect that having downloads for mods on a version that isn't supported or used anymore would cause more problems than it is worth.

Sometimes you need access to old code to properly path upgrades to newer products in forums that were badly managed or poorly maintained in the past. I would have thought closing the forums to new replies and making it clear they are read only, unsupported threads would have been enough.

But this site has a whole history of yanking code and making life difficult for some of us. So I'm not surprised. :)

Thank your luck stars you have been alerted of the changes. Normally the forum would have been archived without warning. The announcements is atleast a set forward and gives people the chance to download now what they need rather than wondering what happened to the forums and unable to download anything resulting in questions being asked in the feedback area.

informing members was not always made by announcements sticked on top... i remember each archiving, and i knew about each of the 3 (or 4?) before they were done... i think one of them was announced inside a thread regarding upgrading the forum itself, so it was missed by a lot of people.

btw, NOW it is done for each, so i don't see why the old time is relevant.

That's probably the reason why I missed some. Marco never stated that they integrated notices of the archiving of series/versions within the upgrades announcements. I'm not the one for rushing to get the latest upgrade or hearing about the latest new spiffy release.

I think this is a very valid point. It would be very easy to make it clear they are old, unsupported, arhcived modifications. Having it not possible to reply etc. makes this even more clear.

Personally I have no need to download them 3.0.x hacks. but I can only imagine that it could be beneficial keeping them downloadable to those that might need them down the track.

At some point, it isn't worth taking up the space with modifications for a version of vB that only a handful are still using, for an even a smaller number people still using 3.0 modifications, with an even more nominal number of authors offering support for them. Sometimes it's best to do a little trimming if only a tiny few will be inconvenienced. Besides, it's in 3.0 user's best interests to have a reason to stay just a little current, as I can imagine 3.0 has all kinds of vulnerabilities at this point, much less their modifications.

Because at some point, it just doesn't make sense to keep selling parts for the Pintos, when your manufacturing Hybrids.

Some people have very active imaginations. :)

In fact some people seem to seriously over estimate Jelsofts involvement in vbulletin.org. They provide the servers that we run on, the means for checking if a member is licenced, and a co-ordinator for any advice/issues we may have. Jelsoft do not make any day to day running decisions for vbulletin.org, they are made by the admins.

from a coder side of things -- which nobody seems to care about, supporting the old hacks that are used by 1% of the population is just harrassment. how much people still use a 3.0 vBulletin, and in that number, how much are using the hacks released here?!... compare to the number of coders who are still supporting their 3.0 hacks, and you will find a number close to zero... forcing these guys to continue supporting their old hacks is just slavery.

oh, btw Paul M, you are right about Jelsoft on vb.org, but i think they are mostly refering to supporting the older versions abroad the system... vbulletin.com is not supporting it anymore, so it's good to follow their support -- if you still have vb 3.0, you have to hire/call for specific support.

I've already gone through the forum and archived some mods that still interest me that haven't been updated to 3.5 or later.

Porting and updating old mods to work on my forums is kinda like a weird hobby to me...

I only wish I could have gone through the vB2 Archives before they got moved, there's a treasure trove of information in there that I missed out on...

that's exactly right. A treasure trove of information awaiting to be ported. There are still many good hacks back in the 3.0.x days that have not been ported for one reason or the other and if given the time they might benefit the imagination of a coder to get ideas on how to port it.

Rap Battle System is in the Beta Modifications forum.

I didn't know Triple Triad was still updated, I know I've looked for it previously too.

There was RPG Inferno but Inferno Technologies seems to have dropped off the face of the Earth.
