i dont really understand what it does.

i thought its creating full topics which opens by the RSS manager.

i mean users dont need to click "more" to read the whole content.

This hack just allows you to post items of RSS feed as posts of the thread. By default you can post items of RSS feed as announcements or threads of the forum.

This hack does not change anything else.

P.S. If you want to get all content from RSS feed of vBulletin forums then you can try to add "&fulldesc=1" to the end of the link.
For example:
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/external.php?type=RSS2&forumids=1&fulldesc=1</font>

Hi,

Is there a way of getting the WHOLE list of the RSS Feed. VB only passes the new or changed topics. As i want to read a complete Top Ten list i'm getting always gaps in the numeration.

Is it possible to implement this in this hack as an additional function?

Thanks!

That's just what I wanted ... But the AddOn doesn't check if either there are new posts or not - what it does is post the specified number of news, even if they aren't new.

So basically it adds the same 5 posts every 10 minutes. Can someone help me with that?

Thx and greetings from Germany ...

Thank you very much for this useful enhancement! :) This is obviously the solution to my headaches with the floods of rss-announcements showing up in the unread/new-posts-summaries. So now I?m able to include forums with rss-feeds and regular content into the newposts-summaries without being dominated by the rss-infos.

I hope I installed it properly. I performed all the subsequent edits from the readme and installed the xml.
I checked the options "Merge many RSS items to one post" and "Merge with old post" and forced the post to keep the old dateline.
The initial sticky thread is created accordingly. A little issue: the title of the first entry doesn´t catch the markup - it´s always plain text.

There is a double-entry to find furthermore.

The second automatic entry with 6 items is always rejected by the database-system with the following error-message:

MySQL Error : You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '
1253460094,
'News was added',
'CNN corresponde' at line 8
Error Number : 1064

Maybe I edited the php-files not correctly?

Clayton

metrika .. instead of creating a new thread for each rss post, it places the rss posts in to one thread

so if you have a subject thread called Life in Honk Kong and your rss feed is from Life in Hong Kong the posts will all be made in the Life in Honk Kong thread and not many different threads

Hope this helps

There is a problem with adding rss using this hack.
If I am adding RSS feed with more titles (over 10) and adding each rss feed as a separate forum post, then first 10 posts in chronological order always end up on my forum on a second page (as forum posts number 11-20) and on the first page are posts older.
Obviously, it means that if newer posts are starting on a second page, then an entire thread will make no sense.
For this single reason I can't use it.
Can you provide the fix?

UPDATE:
I think it has something to do with the Date of the post.
I've manually changed the dates of all 20 posts in POST table (under dateline) and all forum post are sorted fine now.
Is there any way to add this to your script? Maybe it could use dates from RSS or something like that, because all 20 posts (in this case) had the same epoch.

Ive read this entire thread and I did not see mention of something:

Is this hack enabled to pull multiple different RSS feeds into different areas
of your forum?
IOW, I hypothetically have one RSS news feed ported into a news forum subsection, and
a second RSS feed from a photography site ported into an Art forum area and a
third RSS feed from a weather site ported into a regional weather forum area, etc, etc ,etc.
[All on the same board]

This hack can do that?

Clayton
08-01-2010, 05:29 AM
Super-six, I would have thought all you need do is create separate RSS feeds to each forum via the RSS Feed Manager to achieve this?

I currently feed various feeds to various forums, this hack would hopefully add the feed as posts to to given thread in given forum

however I have yet to test the RSS items as posts but do use the built in RSS Feed Manager to deliver to the various forums on topic

hope this helps and whether zcarot can add to this

OK, I made the file edits and now it works...

I thank the coder very much for this mod- this should really be a built in option in vBulletin which I think is about the highest compliment you could give a developer... but that said I have to take issue with the documentation for this mod... It's confusing and misleading.

In the top post it clearly says if you are using version > 0.5 (and this is 0.5.3) then all you need to do was upload the XML product- but in fact you have to make file edits contained in the install text file... That file lists this install as "average" but this is multiple edits to 3 different files in 3 different directories- this is the most file edits I've ever had to make for a vBulletin mod- it's still worth it but I wish the instructions were a little clearer and a little more open/honest.

I take an RSS feed from my chat and turn it into posts for everyone to read later of for those who are blocked from the chat. But because the shortest RSS feed is 10 minutes, there may be 10 to 20 chats in between each RSS call to the chat feed. This results in out of sequence posts.

For example:

First RSS check and posted in this order:
Chat Message 11
Chat Message 10
Chat Message 9
Chat Message 8
Chat Message 7
Chat Message 6
Chat Message 5
Chat Message 4
Chat Message 3
Chat Message 2
Chat Message 1

Next RSS check and posted in this order:
Chat Message 22
Chat Message 21
Chat Message 20
Chat Message 19
Chat Message 18
Chat Message 17
Chat Message 16
Chat Message 15
Chat Message 14
Chat Message 13
Chat Message 12

This results in the posts out of sequence.

Is there anyway to reverse the posting, so instead of starting at the "top" of the RSS feed and working down through it, it could start at the bottom and work up... sort of reversing the loop?

Thanks. It does work well except for this.
