'Rebuild Style' behaviour with different changes in Parent & Child Style ?

hi,
when i "Rebuild Styles" (in Update Counters)
how does this affect changes i made differently in
the same template each in the parent and child style?

like... i made changes in the child style...
and different changes in the same template in the parent style.
i see now that the changes in made in the parent style don't appear in the child style.
so i guess i must "Rebuild Styles" now? i wonder now what exactly happens...

will the child style template be completely overwritten by the template of the
parent style? and the changes i made only in child style will be gone?
or does it merge all changes in the child template?

If you modify a template in a child style, then you will not inherit any changes you make to that same template in the parent style. The child only inherits the parent template if you don't then go and modify them.

You should not need to use Rebuild Styles unless directed by vBulletin support or if you have a specific issue.
