Things to consider:
It uses jQuery (http://jquery.com/) to get the information from ajax.php. jQuery (http://jquery.com/) is great and you can do many great things with it and unlike the vBulletin method it's quite easy to understand. :)

I have a "I'm selling" forum with categories as subforums, and then "I'm buying" forum with categories as subforums - all same subforum names for "selling" and "buying" parent forums.
Now i want to use your mod to display the following:
if user enters the thread named "electric guitar" in "buying" forums, he could get similar threads picked from "selling" forums... So before writing a new tema that he wants to buy something, he can see if theres a thread selling what he wants. Is that possible with your mod + some additional modification of it?

Also, i checked the templates, and in "showthread_similarthreadbit_ajax" template there's a $simthread[forumtitle] mark. I'll explain what i want you to understand at first:
as i said, i have "buying" and "selling" forums with the same titled subforums (let's say they have such subforums: guitars, drums, keyboards). Now, when your mod with the help of Ajax is showing $simthread[forumtitle] in the resulting table, it would look like it is taken from "guitars" forum, but no idea if it is from "selling" or from "buying" parent forum.

So the perfect output would look like:
Selling: guitars

And template would look like this:
$simthread[parentforumtitle]: $simthread[forumtitle]

Question: is there some mark that would be possible of showing something like $simthread[parentforumtitle], or is there a way for me to create it somehow?

Have you tried using more keywords? I put test in a thread about 20 times, and I started a new one with Test, and it didn't find it. But then when I tried something a little more detailed of a thread already on the system, it found it.

I have a couple of questions as well if possible.

1) Is it possible to exclude RESULTS for certain forums rather than just excluding the function, I've excluded a bunch of forums in the options but matches from those forums are still being generated which is very messy (I have Buy/Sell trade sections and I don't want suggestions from those to show up)
2) Is it possible to change the styling as the forum titles are showing up as white on white links which are effectively invisible.

Had to uninstall. I got it working but couldn't prevent it from pulling rss feeds, even after excluding that forum and rebuilding the similar threads.

Someone needs to write up a How To on this hack. Its actually a very good ideal but unless you know your way around VB it can easily discourage less experienced admins.

Real chick

#1. After you install run your "rebuild similar threads" in maintenance.
#2 It works off the VB default "similar thread" so to change how many results are displayed you need to change the VB default for the same. Its in one of your php files but I cant remember the one right now. Its not in the plugins or templates.
#3 Just because you don't get a result doesn't mean its not working. It just means you have nothing similar. Try more words in the title and you will see results.

Like I said this really needs a Read Me included.

I am on VB3.84 , The option is in VBoptions, Message Posting and Editing Options, towards bottom in that category, I also modified my /includes/functions_search.php , searched for LIMIT and changed 5 to 7 on 2 parameters to make it 7 results instead of 5, of course you will have to update counters in maintenance and update your similar threads again for the new amount to show. ENJOY!

With the above you can also put a if condition on it to exclude or include certain forums or usergroups. <if condition="in_array($forumid, array(1,2,3))"> or not in forum <if condition="!in_array($forumid, array(1,2,3))">

Not working on vBulletin 3.8.7

Its no were to be find in the "vBulletin Options" and then "Check for similar threads?"

This is for people who cannot find the options, all I help you out with something that took me hours to find because of a simple wrong by the developer

The developer is says, Go to your vBulletin settings and search for 'Check for similar threads?'.

Which is Totally wrong... Took me hours to find out!!

Here is what you should do after its Installed:

1: Go to your ADMINCP,
2: Click on vBulletin Options, and Choose vBulletin Options
3: No you should look for "Message Posting and Editing Options"
4: Now you should be in the right place, Look for "Check
for similar threads?" And Wolla!

Enable it from there, and you are good to go! Go back and try to make a new thread!

Doesn't work. Dont get up any "Check for similar threads?" in my vBulletin settings

Finaly i got it to work. I had to choose "--Show all settings--" to be able to see the Check for similar threads? setting.

But the "similar threads" box is way to big, and if i change a value to make it smaller something else like the PM box also get smaller.

Can't figure out for the life of me how to change the limit from 5 to 10, or something else. I want to show more than 5 similar threads.

How about making this for vb 5 - vb5 is the wave of the future!

I was stuck in vb3 for years but now that I've upgraded to vb5 over all I am glad I made the move.
