I saw that the 'Lightbox' is updated in 3.8....
But I have no idea what the LightBox is. Anyone mind explaining?

It's a javascript function for images and sometimes other media.

It dims out the background and brings up an image/media in a container object to display it. It allows you to focus on the image without the other distractions on the page.
