What Does This Hack Do?hr
This is an update to my 3.7.x version of this hack.

This is an hack adds an extra option to the Search this Forum drop down list in forum display, that additionally allows you to search for unanswered threads by forum (including child forums if enabled). This can be useful for example, if you have some of your forums dedicated to support issues and want to filter by unanswered support threads, just in that forum (and child forums if enabled).

There have been a few threads that mentioned template edits for allowing to view all unanswered threads in all forums (not like this hack which is by forum, not the entire site), vb.org uses a variation of that template edit. This hack is different, but based on the idea, and allows more control over the results.

There are no file or template changes at all, and is phrased.

AdminCP settings for this hack available in vBulletin Options > Search For Unanswered Threads By Forum.
Settings that can be changed are:

Search child forums - enable/disable
Turn off cached results - enable/disable
Auto Link Creation - this is enabled by default. But if you need to manually edit the FORUMDISPLAY template because the auto template injection does not work, you will need to turn off the auto template injection option, and in the FORUMDISPLAY template you will need to paste $sfutbf_template around where $vbphrase[advanced_search] (don't ask me where, because if you need to make the edit manually, then you have a custom template, and you are on your own with the edit).

vBulletin Version Compatibilityhr
This hack can be used with vBulletin versions 3.6.0 - 3.8.8.

For the v4.0.4 version of this hack - check here.

It does not appear in the navbar, which is why you don't see it. Read the What Does This Hack Do? section of the first post, that will tell you where the link is (also check out the screenshots).

My Forum-wide Search For Unanswered Threads hack will be ported to v3.8.x tomorrow, and that hack will give a link on the navbar search menu.

Hi Mosh,
This one is very useful, especially for Moderators. I would like to have one suggestion for you: It will be more compact and code-saving to combine this mod and your "Forum-wide Search For Unanswered Threads"
Thanks for your work.

It doesn't show up for me and I have followed full directions.
It is going to be one of three things:

You did not upload the bitfield file to the correct location
You have not set the usergroup permissions
You need to manually edit the FORUMDISPLAY template because the auto template injection does not work, you will need to turn off the auto template injection option, and in the FORUMDISPLAY template you will need to paste $sfutbf_template around where $vbphrase[advanced_search] (don't ask me where, because if you need to make the edit manually, then you have a custom template, and you are on your own with the edit).

The only option here is that I am going to have to take a quick look at your installation.

If you want me to take a look then feel free to PM me your site address, a temp admin user (with admin permissions - Can Administer Settings for editing options, Can Administer Styles for editing templates, Can Administer Language Settings for editing phrases, Can Administer User Permissions to edit usergroups and finally Can Administer Plugins for editing products and plugins), and ftp access details, without these I can not help you. I will look when I have time, and even if I have a look, I can not guarantee that I will be able to fix it, so it is up to you what you want to do. You can revoke these after I have helped you out.

Let me know what you decide.

The offer to look at your installation has been on the table for over 7 days, and because the offer was not taken, it has now withdrawn because I do not have unlimited free time to help. There is nothing else I can do or suggest to help in this case, sorry.

Free support for this hack is in its unaltered form, and does not include supporting alterations to this hack, custom code, custom template edits and integration with other third-party hacks.

As it says in the first post, custom template edits are unsupported, so if the following does not work you are on your own.

Change the code you posted to this:
a href="search.php?$session[sessionurl]f=$forumid" rel="nofollow">$vbphrase[advanced_search]</a>

Thanks but dont work
The only other things I can think of is that either you did not upload bitfield_ms_unanswered_threads.xml to your /includes/xml folder, or you did not set usergroup permissions.

If it is neither of those, then I can not help further, as there is nothing else that can go wrong with this hack.

Hi all,

It is with regret that after over 4 years (and thousands of hours) spent providing free support for my free hacks released here, as of today I will no longer be able to provide support for free.

This is due to being unemployed for a while, being strapped for cash and unable to rely on the virtually non-existant donations from here to help to pay the bills or put food on the table for my family. I am now providing all support for my free hacks released here over at Wolfshead Solutions (http://www.wolfshead-solutions.com) via an annual support subscription (for a small fee).

It does not mean I will be no longer release free hacks, I will, but I will just no longer be supporting them for free.

My free hacks have and always will remain free to download and use. And so will updates/bug fixes.

I will be releasing more free hacks, but if you require any support at all for those free hacks, you will need to purchase an annual support subscription over at Wolfshead Solutions to receive support.

I am really sorry I have to do this, but revenue generated by my programming gigs are now my only source of income, and I can no longer afford the luxury of providing free support here, when that time can be spent creating new commerial products, doing paid work requests or providing paid support to pay the bills.

Thank you for the understanding.

Regards,

Mosh.

I will not be able to update this hack to v4.0.x until vBulletin have fixed the following bug - http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=34686.

UPDATE: I will not be able to update this hack to v4.0.x until vBulletin Solutions has released vBulletin 4.0.4 which, I can confirm, does fix the bug that will not allow this hack to work at then moment (Internet Brands have advised the release date for 4.0.4 should be before the end of June 2010, so this hack will be ported asap after the release). See this bug report for more information - http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBIV-3652.
