User Profile Fields

Is there anyway to add user profile fields via a product?
My new add-on needs a few user profile fields to be added and I'm sure users won't want to add profile fields so if I can simplfy it by adding them automatically, that would be a lot easier.

Look at how they are inserted by vBulletin - grab that query and use it in the install code. You may also have to update a cache (not sure). Make sure you remove it on uninstallation.
