Hello
my forum is getting DDos attack from last 4 days continuously forum is on VPS with 512mb Ram Gentoo operating system and webmin i am hosting with ovh.com i am not getting wut to do Attack is something like i see lots of visitors accessing forum and then atonce it goes down from last days it hardly stayed up for an hour i protected the folder with User/Pass Tried to deny the ips i got hand on but nothing is helping can someone suggest me wut shud i do and i also wana knw if their is any hositng providing managed Firewall against DDos where i can host if nothing else helps me here waiting for responses ASAP
Nothing will protect against ddos, you can only have more bandwidth than the attackers do.

Try to shut off your http service for a while and then turn it back on after a few hours to see if they've quit.

had same issue and same server, host installed a script to block agressive incomming ip hits. End of prolem..:cool:

can u tell me wut u did and wut kind of script is used ? did u talked to ovh for this issue ? and they did the script for u ?

Is it a linux box?
If so - google: csf + lfd

Actually as you already added a .htaccess password, i doubt this is a DDOS. Sounds more like the server just can not handle the load.

For those facing a DoS or DoSS attack, they shoult try out the DOS-Deflate application, its free and its a great solution for low range attacks. If the attacks are bigger you should now try with a hardware firewall such as Cisco ASA 5510 or if your site is a real bandwidth muncher, Cisco ASA 5520. Of course, these firewalls are expensive, but they stop DoS and DoSS in a jiffy!
