Set some username rules regarding similarities?

Does anyone know of any code or mod that disallow usernames that are TOO similar?

e.g.

Ice Cream Lover
icecreamlover

?

Nope, I've never seen anything like that. I imagine it wouldn't be that easy to write.

I found something to disallow spaces...

that should help quite a lot.

Admin CP > vBulletin Options > User Registration Options > Username Regular Expression

I would very much want something like this. Nor only for spaces etc., but also for similarities.

What would you define as 'similar'?

F.ex: If a user is "Johnathan" then a "warning" should be given for a new user trying to register as "Johnattthan" or "Jonathan".

There are so many variations, and so many user names to began with, I don't see this as something that is possible.

I have never experimented with it, but in MySQL you have something called SOUNDEX what might be usefull in this case.

I have no experience regarding codes, so that would be far off my level to try making this on my own. ;)
