Hi,

I want to make it so a certain usergroup's posts and threads have to be approved by a moderator before they are shown. I am really not sure how to do this so can anyone help?

Thanks,

admincp > usergroup manager > usergroup you want to moderate > post/thread permissions > Follow Forum Moderation Rules > check No

See I did that however it doesn't work. The member still posts freely.

Check this under Forums & Moderators > Forum Permissions > select the usergroup under each of the forums and check the permission there

Okay I found out the problem.
Some users were in additional usergroups which then made it so the moderation didn't work.
Is there any way to overcome this so maybe they follow the rules of their primary usergroup.

Thanks,

A Yes permission will overcome a No permission. So, if the extra usergroup you put them in gives them a Yes even though their primary group says No, they will get the Yes applied to them.

Hmm, I tried that but to no avail. People now are having to have all posts moderated in the additional group forums.

Have you checked Forum Permissions > find forum in list > find usergroup under forum > check the permissions for moderation there?

And I'm trying to do the exact opposite - create a usergroup that does not have to be moderated. I've searched for "bypass + moderation" and found this thread.

Following the above instructions, adapted to reach my goal, so far isn't working. The new usergroup, Trusted Member, was created off of Registered Members. Follow Forum Moderation Rules is set to Yes. If no, posts are always placed into moderation queue, right? Registered Member is set to No.

I've tried switching between using Registered Member and Trusted Member as primary then secondary usergroup. Neither works. Hoping you can tell me what I did wrong.

I'm using 3.6.8 PL2.

Check Follow Forum Moderation Rules in Forum Permissions > select the usergroup in the forum also. Maybe you have set them to be moderated in each forum.

Just checked and they are set differently, as above.

I've created a "tester" ID who is currently set with Registered Member as primary, Trusted Member as secondary. Is that correct?

Do you have Allow Users to have Member Groups set to Yes in the Registered Members group? But, to be honest, I'm not sure what happens if the primary group is set to be moderated and the secondary group is set to not be. The way I've done it is to have Trusted Member as a Primary group.

I tried allowing Member Groups, not allowing them; every combination I could think of. Nothing worked. Our forums are fully moderated. We're looking for a way to reward good members and also take a load off our Moderation Team.

Any other suggestions?

The way I have my board set up is I changed the name of the Registered Users group to Registered Users - Moderated. I then copied that usergroup, with all usergroup permissions and forum permissions to a new group called Registered Users. So, the only difference between the two groups is that one is moderated, the other isn't. I then set a Promotion up to move users from Registered Users - Moderated to Registered Users after x posts and y days.
