Thanks that seemed to work. Thanks for the useful mod.

One problem I did just run into, the description isn't carried over when you preview the thread.

Deviant K1

:( **INSTALLED** but...

When this hack was originally released it work fine.. after I edit the threadbit. I uninstalled the hack, made sure the "$threaddescription" was removed and then updated to this latest version.

Unless I am missing something, the option to ADD a thread description on a new thread is not available however, I can choose any previously posted thread and choose to edit and SEE the option to add in a thread description... strange.

I have check all of my forum boards settings to allow thread descriptions and they are all set.

Am I missing something here? Again, originally the option to add a thread description on a new thread was available, now it is not... only when I edit a thread does it show.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply! What I ended up having to do was resetting all my boards to NOT allow thread descriptions... then save... and finally reactivating the thread description to be allowed and saved again. Works like a charm :)!

Also, I'm not sure if anyone else is having this little issue but when anyone on my boards creates a new thread... they get this ---> "The most members online in one day was %1$s, %2$s" as the default thread description in the box. It' doesn't show up like that when you edited a thread... only when you create a new one. I mean it can be deleted of course but it's a bit annoying :)

Thanks again! :D

Sorry, but what I didn't ask was why does this show as a default thread description in a newly created thread?
--> "The most members online in one day was %1$s, %2$s"

This is an excellent mod, however it does need an admin-set maximum field length so that people don't post entire paragraphs as the description.

Hello,

I want to ask 2 things,

1-) How can i make thread description required, instead of optional

2-) Is there a way to put checkboxes instead of textfield, so users can choose predefined values?

Nice :) I was looking for something like this for a year or so.

Tell me about it. I just lost ( I think about 10,000 descriptions from exporting from PHPBB and not knowing this existed..... Maybe they will magically reappear now :erm:..

One can hope and if not one can have them in the future any ways.

Thanks and put me down for INSTALLED please!

Oh and thanks Gate for sending me here!

Not sure of what you mean that is it not doing any auto template updates.

I am sure you do have to enable it in the Admin CP however. I do not think it has the ability to go back and add anything to any post that is dormant but if you wish to edit any post, then you can there add a description to it. Same thing for new post.

If you do not see this occuring and you have installed in and you have turned it on in Ad CP then you may wish to completly clear cache as in dump cookies and files not just ctrl refresh and then reboot and I am confindent it will come up if installed properly.

Baldilocks
01-04-2009, 10:45 AM
It's turned on by default after installation. No need to "enable" it. However none of the template edits that are supposed to be "automatic" were performed.

I know what templates are supposed to be edited, however and I guess I will just have to perform them manually.

I am sorry for the bad advise as I got this confused with another enhancement that was recently installed for me and he forgot to turn it on.

The description enhancement however began to work immediatly for us.

I have looked without answer to your question and am the least qualified person to address this.

I however wish coders would work together more to help each others with nice features like this one. Once installed it has no help file as some make thus anyone seeing it without the above documentation would not know what to do.

Also the minor quirks like losing the text in preview, seems someone would help form a solution for this and this is one of the very nicest features you can have in many forums.

In our quasi hat galleries it is a must to idenify them but I am not going back to edit several hundreds of hats but instead will form a complex solution for a much more powerful gallery feature for them.

I can see how a 1001 more users and more could however benefit from this description line.

I really wonder if there is another version of this same mod out however as I see on the fedora lounge how all of them put something even if it is a "." in the description line and makes me to think it is a mandatory field there.

Hi TrucLinh!

How is your day? Don't be serious. :D

It work with new thread after install the product but the old one before install have no effect! :)

Maybe we can edit a thread description inline? Like the thread title.

Please help me.

I downloaded the file and made the following changes:
1. $forum['descriptiondefault'] = 1; changed to $forum['descriptiondefault'] = 0;
2. $db->query_write("ALTER TABLE `" . TABLE_PREFIX . "forum` ADD `descriptiondefault` SMALLINT(6) NOT NULL DEFAULT '1'"); to $db->query_write("ALTER TABLE `" . TABLE_PREFIX . "forum` ADD `descriptiondefault` SMALLINT(6) NOT NULL DEFAULT '0'");
3. turn off the "Show Forum Descriptions in Forum Listings" at Forum Listings Display Options

Then imported the file to the products.

But unfortunately I got the following errors  :
