Akismet Installation Problem

Hi Guys,
While I am trying to install Akismet then it gets installed. But I think somewhere I am missing some steps (but I am not sure). The way I am following is,
a. I am downloading the Akismet Plugin. Keeping that in drive.
b. In the Product Manager => Add/Import Products
c. In this field "EITHER upload the XML file from your computer" I am choosing that product XML File and clicking on Import. ( I am not uploading the akismet folder, may be thats my mistake).
d. And after installing that I gave the api key properly.

Now when I am opening the index.php then the site says that the database is not able to connect etc etc. So I am not able know that where I am missing steps? Am I following wrong way of installing the product? Can anyone please help me out that how I can resolve this issue coz I am very worried for the spams which is badly happening to my forum. So I need to install this product successfully and it should work also.

NOTE: Along with that I am installing the Moderation Queue plugin also so that I can see the posts that are in the moderation queue. So that I can approve/delete them etc.

So guys please help me out.

Which version of vBulletin are you using?

Version 3.7 and greater have akismet built in and you dont need a plugin.

Other than that, if your having a problem with the modification, ask in the modification thread, you'll get better help in that thread for the modification.
