Calendar on front page?

Is there a way to add some sort of calendar to the side or underneath the navbar?

I want my users to be able to see upcoming events happening around town, and I post all those events on the calendar for them to check out, but for those who don't frequent the calendar section I want to have a calendar on the front page for them to see.
