Hello,

I viewed my profile today and noticed the following;

Does Your Home Page URL Contain Adult Content?:No adult content.

This is perfectly fine, however I don't have a homepage set on vBulletin.org.

My suggestion; only display this info if the user has a homepage set.

Yes,this information has always bugged me :)

It is a simple Profile Field using the default options available in vB. It is not possible to control the display if a User Profile Field based on the value of another field. I don't see the need to write custom coding to support such a feature.

Usability, Marco. Good webmasters think from a user perspective first, and a development perspective second.

Usability is not the sole aspect in a decission. Other things like costs (ie. development, is it easy to maintain), "gain" for the users compared to the work needed, etc..

Users will not gain anything from the proposed change. The only benefit for them would be that there is 1 field less to enter if they want (already default value suitable for most users). On the other hand we would need to make changes that go beyond default vB, also making it more difficult in an upgrade.

I see more in removing the field and simply not allow adult links as homepage. This would be more consistent with our rules regarding posting etc.

a simple if condition would take care of it ;)
how much development time is needed? :D

It doesn't cost you anything to make the change. In the time you spent writing that reply you could have added a conditional to do it. But alas, I take your point.

I'm not going to argue like some of the tantrum-throwers here. I just hope Princeton will agree with the suggestion ;)

Exactly what I was wondering.

And the big question , if you guys are finding very easy improvements hard to accomplish why do you still be an admin here at vb.org. Sorry Marco but your reply reminds me this question.

Marco was making a general statement in response to Dean, we are aware of the coding behind this suggestion and it's simplicity.

We're wondering whether the custom field is necessary. As Marco said, it may not be since content with Adult material is restricted here in the first place and there are licensed minors registered on the site.

As well as Administrators ;)

I say you just wait till vb3.8. I mean, it's been there for a while already.

As well as Administrators ;)

Not sure what this means? None of the Administrators are minors.

If only there was some way to pay for these radical code overhauls...hmmm

if this bothers you that much take some advil or something, people bug me out whining about the dumbest ish in the world on a site that is here to help us all, you act like the staff is just out to shoot down and rule from on high and all that, get over yourselves and your little "IF I were admin here" crap....it's a online forum, one that just so happens to be immensely helpful to us all, try being grateful every once in a while...

We have decided to update our policy. Just as on any other place on our site, it will no longer be allowed to use an URL to adult content as your homepage in your profile. The selection in the profile to for adult content on the homepage URL is now obsolete and has been removed.

Those who currently have a link to adult content set as their homepage URL are kindly requested to remove or change as soon as possible.

I hope you're not referring to me by that comment because really what I hate even more than people whining is people who skim through topics just to make sarcastic, useless posts just to make some point that nobody even cares about.

I think you need to get over yourself here, not the other way round, nobody ever said the Administrators were doing a bad job nor did anyone suggest they 'rule from on high'

Also, if you are going to make a post about how much people like us bug you whining about dumb 'ish' at least construct your post so it actually makes sense, if you're unable to do this, at least have some decent points in there, otherwise it's just worthless you posting...

I was merely making a suggestion and it's clearly a legit one as now it's been removed.

Even better than my suggestion. :)
