I thought it would be best if we kept all the spam relaed threads together, that way members have a one point of access to all the latest spam busting tips.
Now whilst the spam bots are going crazy at the moment from some of the forums i've seen, it may be a good idea to note your fave anti spam mod here and why you like it, perhaps the odd link back to the mods forum.
If we keep all the latest in one thread then its easier to help those that need it more.
I must of been dead lucky the past month without a single bot registration coming through, although there have been at times at least 10 attemps to register, so how do i do it, keeping the spam bots at bay..
On my site i have the following installed...
15+ Posts to create links ~ Throws an error message for spammers.
Guest Redirections ~ Redirect guests from No permission page to register page
Guest Tracking ~ Track Guest Visits
Guests First Post Only ~ This mod only shows the first post of a thread to guests.
Hide Links From Guests ~ With this hack you hide links from guests
Is Bot ~ Registration Time Check
NoSpam! ~ allows you to specify a set of questions which members are required to answer correctly at registration, eliminating the ability of spam bots to register at your forums and post unwanted messages.
Now the best mod for me so far has to be a tie between, No Spam, Is Bot and the Guest Tracking Hack. The No spam and is bot, stop the bots from regeristing, and the Guest Tracking shows me everyone and everything thats come onto the forum, all the failed registrations and IP addy's, Ready to add to my ban list :D:D
Now that the new spam bots can read over 700 versions of captcha, i believe adding the above hacks to your site is well worth the effort, as i said i've not had one bot register so far, so a credit to the coders that give up their time to provide us with a secure and safe enviroment for our members, (and for free!!!) thanks guys :up:
If you want to download any of the above anti spam mods, just copy the ones you want into the search area.
