View Full Version : Contraverse vBulletin Skin

ChaosBurnt
10-26-2008, 10:00 PM
Black and blue tech skin, 100% home-made images (excluding pre-existing vBulletins minor graphics of course!)

This skin was originally designed by myself as a phpBB3 template but I have ported over to vBulletin as a request for a friend. Figured I could include it here if anyone wants to use it.

blank psd's for logo and buttons included.

Note to skin translators.
I permit translations of this skin povided that the translated skin is linked to within this very thread once it is available, please make me aware of your translation personally with a link to the release thread so I can add a link to it in this post to make access to others easier.
Thank you.

There is a French Translation of my skin by kahouett available

I have more DARK skins available to members of my vB38Skin site, but my efforts are concentrated on Gothic/Horror/Occultism based skins on my site. I'm not so sure these will be wanted here so I wont post the Darker skins on this site, all my skins are FREE, this wont change. I could do with some people signing up to download the skins available on my own site to do testing of them if nothing else.:)

Yup Reverend!
The downloaded files were gif files, so corrected those in the stylevars!

The other thing is - at 800 X 600 pixels view - the main header goes out of whack to the right, although the rest of the page views fine!

The 800x600 view is not something I'm too concerned about, I know a small amount of people still use those ancient tiny VDU's but the majority of people have a screen width of at least 1024 these days.

The gif thing is news to me, can you give me more info so I can correct the download file please.

In the social groups page the "Create a New Group", "Advanced Search" and "Subscribed Discussions" links seem to be displayed on a different font set. If the default font is verdana, these three seem to be more like Times New Roman.
you can see this here (http://www.oldpaulites.in/forum/group.php)
Do you I think it's only me/my site?

6.0

But I have found a way to fix it.. atleast on my end

whereas the original looks like this
<div id="wrap">
<!-- logo -->
<a name="top"></a>
<div id="logo_block">

<div class="logo-l"></div>
<div class="logo-m"><div style="text-align:center"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" />$ad_location[ad_header_logo]</a></div></div>
<div class="logo-r"></div></div>

and I moved the "div" closing tag (in red) to here

<div id="wrap">
<!-- logo -->
<a name="top"></a>
<div id="logo_block">

<div class="logo-l">
<div class="logo-m"><div style="text-align:center"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" />$ad_location[ad_header_logo]</a></div></div> </div>
<div class="logo-r"></div></div>

which seems to make it work for me ..

again..Thanks for the skin..Probably the best I've seen in quite some time..Great work!!!

One other question
which font are you using for the logo? is there somewhere I can find that easily?
Thanks again

An unusual way around it, I cannot see this as being a good solution but if you're happy with it so be it. :)

I'll look at making the logo a float element, maybe that will resolve the problem properly for you.

Okay, I think the problem is the use of the secondary div, which struck me as superfluous when I used it, but the day had been a long one, you know how it is. Finding the source of problems once the skin is finished is not so easy, but the secondary div still makes no sense to me, so let's try this.

Find this:
<div id="logo_block">

<div class="logo-l"></div>
<div class="logo-m"><div style="text-align:center"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" />$ad_location[ad_header_logo]</a></div></div>
<div class="logo-r"></div>
</div>

Replace with this:
<div id="logo_block">

<div class="logo-l"></div>
<div class="logo-m" style="text-align: center;"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" />$ad_location[ad_header_logo]</a></div>
<div class="logo-r"></div>
</div>

I have to say basskiller, I'm lost for an answer, there is no reason what so ever for the code not to work I can think of.
Placing the end div where you say you have it will result in the div content being completely out of alignment.
I have searched extensively on the net for any other people reporting similar problems to the one you suggest but have yet to find anything the same, and most certainly have not found a solution. I could understand if the code was bad but the code I have used is perfectly correct, I'm at a loss mate :(

Just so you can see what I mean, this is the result of your notion in FF:

For use on your own site sidman you are free to do with the skin as you see fit, I do ask that if you change my skins radically as you are suggesting that you add a bit in the footer stating you have altered the skin. ;)

I think this problem is for some reasons in some browsers which they read every <div> in it's own line.

you can try this to make the two div in the same line and i think this will fix the problem:

add style="float: left;" so your code will be like this:

<div id="wrap">
<!-- logo -->
<a name="top"></a>
<div id="logo_block">

<div class="logo-l" style="float: left;"></div>
<div class="logo-m"><div style="text-align:center"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" />$ad_location[ad_header_logo]</a></div></div>
<div class="logo-r"></div></div>

OR

<div id="logo_block">

<div class="logo-l" style="float: left;"></div>
<div class="logo-m" style="text-align: center;"><a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" />$ad_location[ad_header_logo]</a></div>
<div class="logo-r"></div>
</div>

and of course you can set the float for each div there

Hello Super Jinni, the logo-l has the float left in the additional css, this is the css I'm using:

/* logo cells ================================== */
#logo_block {
margin: 0px;
padding: 0px;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
width: 100%;
}
.logo-l {
background-image: url(images/contraverse/misc/logo-l.gif);
background-repeat: no-repeat;
height: 211px;
float: left;
width: 190px;
padding: 0px;
}

.logo-m {
background-image: url(images/contraverse/misc/logo-m.gif);
background-repeat: repeat;
height: 211px;
margin: 0px 190px 0px 190px;
width: auto;
padding: 0px;
}

.logo-r {
background-image: url(images/contraverse/misc/logo-r.gif);
background-repeat: no-repeat;
height: 211px;
float: right;
margin-top: -211px;
width: 190px;
padding: 0px;
}
/* ================================================== ============================== */

Perhaps I have error in the css, I don't believe so but, well you never know eh!

Super Jinni
11-10-2008, 06:38 PM
your CSS seems to be correct.
and it will work in most browsers if not all.
but in some browsers as in basskiller you need to define the float for div itself as I mentioned in my previous post.

for me the style looks fine as I'm using FF3, Flock and IE7.

need to be checked by IE 6 to be sure.

we just need basskiller to try it out and tell us.

I'm sorry to have to say that I will not be able to support my vBulletin skins any more, my license expires soon and we (my wife and I) cannot afford to renew it.
I had big plans for working with vBulletin skins, I have tons of development skin ideas too, but it's got to come to an end.
I'm going to have to go back to using phpBB3 and put those new skin concepts to use there instead, it's free you see, no license fees, sadly I hate phpBB3, it's as excrement as compared to cream when I consider vBulletin, but I have no choice.
I'll miss working with vBulletin skins, still, there it is, I wish you all well, take good care of yourselves, may peace be yours through all you endeavour to do.

I am no longer going to provide this skin through the username of ChaosBurnt, I am going to be releasing my old skins and all new ones under the username of Phantasmagoric.

The downloads are going to be removed from the thread user the username of ChaosBurnt, continued support will be provided by me under the username of Phantasmagoric.

Updated skins and all new skins coming soon!
