Fatal error when uploading a JPG avatar

This is the error I get when uploading a JPG avatar:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: imagecreatefromjpeg()

.gif's work fine. What could be causing this?

Make sure GD is installed and compiled with PHP. Ask your host. Does this also happen with other format of images?
