Does anybody know the template where you can change the filetypes for the status icons to PNG from GIF?

It can be done without editing templates.

Simply upload the .PNG icons to /statusicons/ folder and change their extension to .GIF via FTP. They won't loose their quality.

You'll have to modify more than one template. The templates that will need modifying are forumhome & forumdisplay.
