Post Groan Hack 4.1


About this hack:
This hack was requested by users who like my "Post Thank You Hack". Both can run together on the same forum.

This hack adds a "groan" button to all posts. Any user can "groan" at a post. This will reduce the amount of "junk" posts your forum gets.

Features:

Uses vBulletin easy Product installer/updater/uninstaller
Uses AJAX technology so your users don't have to refresh when they groan at a post.
Places an easy to use button next to the edit button
Separate looks for postbit and postbit_legacy
Places all Groans into one small box
Uses only ONE query every time you view a showthread page!
Users can't groan twice
Guests don't see 'groan' button
Counts how many groans a user gives
Counts how many groans a post gets
Shows how many groans a user gave in every post of his
Shows how many groans a user gave in profile
Shows how many groans a user got
Shows info in profile
Search for a users groaned at posts
Search for all groaned at posts
Administrator can remove all Groans from a single post
Users can remove their own Groans (Option to turn it off)
Turn on and off hack totally

This hack, together with Thank hack, gives users opportunity to "vote" a single post as "good" or "bad" according to their taste. I find it useful for my board, as user received groans will be more careful in his / her next post...

Usefull mod but can the groan be changed to something better understood like "bad post" or smth ?

I opened post_groan.php and found the following on line 377:

WHERE post_thanks.userid = $user[userid]

I changed it to:

WHERE post_groan.userid = $user[userid]

That should stop the errors. Any drawbacks to doing that?

The Problem is that the Quicklinks of the Thanks and Groan Hack are not beneath each other.

One is at the Project-/ and one is at the Blogsection.

And BTW - why did you not merge the both Hacks and give us a Option in AdminCP :

1. Activate Thanks and disable Groan
2. Activate Groan and disable Thanks
3. Activate Thanks & Groan
4. Disable Thanks & Groan

Would make everything easier.

And BTW - it seems to make no Sense to add the Groanbutton before the Thanksbutton. Can you please switch the Executionorder so we don?t have to do it manually after every Update?

That's actually a great idea. My problem with this is the Post Thank you issue that I have. Because of the 3.7+, it doesn't show up under my mood nor do they update on the UserCP like it did before the facebook-like UserCp was created. You have to go into the user stats for that and my members like to see that number count under their names. any way of fixing that or has that already been done?

Here's what I'd like to see...

If X number of members with XXX number of posts groan a post then the post or thread goes into "unmoderated" status, so members can't see it.

Like say if 6 members who each have 300 posts or more groan a post then it vanishes, goes into unmoderated status.

You should be able to choose how many members needs to groan a post plus how many posts each have before it will unmoderate the groaned post.

Does this make any sense?

We currently have a system like this that uses the report a post function but I think this would be much easier...

It creates a "member moderated forum" and although many thought it wouldn't work it DOES work fantastic....since we've had a member moderated system our moderator work load dropped to almost nothing. All we do now is clean up WHEN we feel like it.

And if any post was removed that we feel should not have been we just bring it back...no problem, but that happens very rarely.

I'll gladly pay you to add this feature...

Hi Abe, and thanks for an excellent hack(s). I'm using both thanks and groan hack at the moment, but I have a problem.

I make use of a custom Core Admin group that's above Admin in status. However, I cannot remove all groans/thanks from a post. I cannot find an option anywhere to add this Core Admin group to the list of admins that can remove groans/thanks.

Also, is there a way to only remove a specific groan/thanks from a post?

Just some more details I've notice, may be to help you out to find a fix for this.

I get this error only when Googlebots are cheking users profiles as I have enabled "show stats at profile".

I've noticed visitor can have an answer if they try to use "Find All Posts Groaned by" the answer for the search is always "Sorry, no matches were found" but as a regular visitor despite of the getting any results I don't have the same MySQL error. If I just log in I can get results using the same script. So far so good because I believe visitors don't need such info.
Why am I getting this error only with Googlebots ?

Hi Abe1,
Actually I ported your groan hack to vb3.7 several months ago but didn't publish it. The groan and thank you hack would work similarly to Seba's postrate hack (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=170419) . IMO, your groan/thank hacks have better coding style and are move actively developed. However Seba's postrate has one very nice feature: it auto-hides posts if they are below a defined score. If you can adapt this idea and combine groan/thank you hacks and have post auto-hide feature, that will be great.

I've been using the Thanks hack for a long time. My users LOVE it.

What I would like to do at this point is institute the Groan hack in ONE forum. It's pretty much our debate forum for heated threads. I would rephrase "groan" to "Disagree." What I really want to be able to do is change the button image for the "Thanks" to "Agree," but just for that one forum. I'd like to leave it as "Thanks" for all other forums.

Not sure if this has been suggestion but can you make it so that once it gets so many groans, it will hide the post like in this mod:

Please let me know if you would or wouldn't mind adding this. If you aren't, then I'm going to have to find a way to do this or have someone else figure this out...or just install the mod above :(

It will be nice to have a way to delete individual user's Groan.

For now administrator can delete:


His own Groan
All Groans at once

That's an awesome idea I think, because now it is expanding the space that a message use in the page view, so it is a little bit more "noisy" view... I hope I could explain what I mean when I said noisy, perhaps can be called "untidy" also.

If both thanks and groan can be in same box, somehow, it would be better - in my opinion ;)

If all you want to do is switch the Thanks and Groan buttons round in the postbit just open up postbit_display_complete hook option under Post Groan Hack in the Plugin Manager and change the Execution Order to 4.

delete_groan($postinfo, $this->existing['userid'], false);

It doesn't make sense...

I fixed it... I think I missed some of the files, I just did a reload and now the Ajax is working on both and they integrated well.

It would be soooo much better if it just removed a thank you (-1) from the post thanks count, and didnt appear in the postbit as a separate count.

The integration only stops you from using both on the same post.

For those who may try to use this on PHP 5.6.0 (or higher) and VB 3.8.11, you need to make some manual file edits to the /includes/functions_post_groan.php

Thanks to vbem2 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/member.php?u=231182) who figured out the file edits for the Post Thank You mod here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=2586995#post2586995

But basically you open the file in a code editor.

FIrst look for:

if ($postids)
{
$post_ids = "0$postids";
}
else
{
$post_ids = $postid;
}


and replace it with


if (empty($postids))
{
$postids[] = $postid;
}


Next search for:


(" . $post_ids . ")


And replace it with


(" . implode(',', $postids) . ")


There should be 2 instances of the above.


That seems to do it for me.
